I just watched 1984
Yep, I never read the book and I won't now it's waaay too depressing. Right after the movie, kinda shell-shocked, I turned on a live internet talk radio show.

They were in the middle of a discussion about how we are not going to be allowed to grow gardens without a permit and a bunch of community gardens*** have been bulldozed down by government officials.

*** being somewhere in the USA but I didn't hear enough of the show to hear where this is going on yet.

2. Where did you find the movie?
I have been trying to find a copy so I can watch it, and haven't been able to. x(

I've read the book, and it's excellent (though I agree; the story is very depressing).

I did see the Handmaid's Tale long ago. That was what's her name, the gal that just died in the skiing accident.

I can't say I hate depressing movies, they are allright, once in a while. I seldom watch anything, in act, except lately short-stuff from You-Tube has become quite a nice little time-waster ; )

the Big-Brother idea is all too real.

4. The book was better then the movie
But only better in the same bad way the movie was.

1984 is told from the perspective of big brother. The ending premise is you can't win, and it also has the main character only fight big brother with big brother tactics.

It is about hopelessness in a way. You shouldn't believe the book, but it can be good primer of information if you ever disagree with or challenge 'big brother' false doctrine.

A brave new world

and

Fahrenheit 451

are good books on social methods, or flaws also.
