Ladies: Do you wear perfume, and if so, what kind?
Just curious, mostly. Not wanting to get into a too-much-perfume-in-the-________________ (restaurant, airplane, elevator, etc.) kind of shout fest.

Just wondering. I have always liked Chanel No. 19, but haven't worn perfume in ages. I live in the south, now, and it seems humidity makes the perfume stronger, so I err on the side of nothing rather than too much scent.

Do you like citrus? Exotic/spicy? Floral? Woodsy?

:hi:

1. I do, every once in awhile.
When I do, I wear Chloe'.

I actually stopped for quite awhile, when my mom was still alive. She had a bad lung condition, and couldn't be around any kind of perfume or cologne (not to mention smoke, fumes, odors, etc.).

I don't layer it on either; I hate that. I usually spray a little in the air and then walk through it, so there's only a hint of scent on me.

6. You don't put it on pulse points?
Putting it on fabric is going to be hard on that fabric, but you don't get the nice sensation of having the scent fade. I like that, when I get a faint whiff of my own perfume - which I use very sparingly.

7. yeah, I agree
It's nice to have it fade during the day ... and perfume is made to interact with body heat, etc., not fabric. So if it's put just on fabric, the full benefit of the scent is lost.

When I worked in NYC and rode the crowded subway every morning, I'd have sprayed Chanel No. 19 on my cleavage, and then I could just lower my head and inhale perfume rather than stinky subway odors on the way into work. Much nicer than the stale, urine-y odor of so many of the NYC subway cars. Not to mention the other riders' onion bagels, wildly stinky breakfast, leftover beer binge, etc., odors.

8. Now that depends. If I have a lover and I'm going to make love, then I do put it on my pulse points.
But that is not my situation right now.

That is my favorite of all scents.

These days, I make my own perfume but I'll take a bottle of Emeraude as a gift - happily.

10. And it is getting harder and harder to find.
The only place that stocks it all the time is "The Vermont Country Store". I usually wind up getting it at the local CVS-they have had it in stock around the holidays.

13. I know
The only place around here that carries it is frigging Wally World. They say the formula has changed from the original and that's sad. I guess my sniffer isn't very refined because it still smells the same to me - powdery and warm.

30. Coty. Along with L'Origon and L'Aiment - can get at Vermont Country Store
My mother-in-law wore L'Origon for years and years and years and I increasingly had a hard time finding it, but Vermont Country store stocked it. It smelled clovey to me. One of the first times I met her, we hugged and I said "you're baking a ham!" only she wasn't.

L'Aiment is awful - it smells like the inside of a rubber dolls head. I only know because one time they sent that by accident and I tried it. Blecch!

Emeraude smells almost identical to Shalimar to many people.

Tabu was created in 1932 by Dana.

20. some say sights, some say sounds... for me, scents have always triggered my deep seated memories...
when i was but a sprout, the most beautiful woman i would ever encounter, one of my mom's friends, wore chanel no. 5. i was just a boy but she was the most incredible, wonderful, sexy woman ever. my ideal. then and now. i don't remember her name, i somewhat remember her looks, but every time i get that scent in my head my synapses explode, align and alight... and i react on like a dna level.

i don't know quite how to explain it... but it immediately gets my attention and interest. i tingle...

ha! i shouldn't be saying all of this!

42. Proust
He got a whiff of some cookies and was lost in reverie of things past.

They say hearing is the last sense to go, which may or may not be true, but I know for me, too, scent is the most powerful. Maybe because it's sometimes so elusive.

I am not at all surprised that Chanel No. 5 brings that woman back to you. It's such a distinctive, yet subtle, experience. I wore all sorts of perfumes until I hit a certain point in my life, and then it was only Chanel No. 5. It was as if I had finally earned it.

Every time I put it on, it's special all over again.

Thanks for the lovely little confession. I'll tell no one ..................

12. Wore perfume every day, since high school (I think.)
Switched from day to day.

When working, wore something every day, and discovered I'm a light, airy floral, so have been with Nina Ricci, and went with her new ones as they came along. (Gave up l'air du temps ages ago.)

Retired now, hoping to establish a 'life,' so only use perfume when seeing my kids (who comment, Mom, that smells like YOU!) Premier Jour/Nina Ricci is it at the moment.

Wrists, always.

17. After years of trying many different perfumes I have finally settled on one.
I absolutely LOVE Mackie for Women. I also get a lot of compliments on it, too. I wear it sparingly anymore, because it's difficult to find. My last bottle was a birthday gift from my husband, and he had to order off the internet.

Introduced by the design house of Bob Mackie in 1991, MACKIE by Bob Mackie for women is a flowery fragrance sprinkled with fruity notes. This sweet and sexy feminine scent possesses a blend of pineapple, raspberry and peach, accompanied by rose, jasmine, musk and sandalwood.

18. I wear a lot of blended-essential-oil type scents
from this company:

http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com/

I can spend hours on the site just reading all the descriptions. It's like a goth J. Peterman catalog.

I like woodsy, incensy, light/dark scents best, with a hint of musk. My favorites currently are Dee, Ulalume, Black Forest, Sophia, and, er, Arkham and R'lyeh. (Yes, they have a whole line inspired by Lovecraft.)

I have to go for the more "dry" scents, because some of the florals tend to turn to baby powder on me, which is a smell I just can't stand.

Y'know, people scoff at me as being flower child-y and stuck in the '60s, but I never go out without being accosted by girls asking why I smell so good and men waggling their eyebrows suggestively. I suspect it's just the ultimate sex smell. :)

32. One of life's small tragedies is when a beloved perfume disappears forever.
I just loved Orange Blossom by Henri Bendel and then it disappeared, never to found again, even on the intertubes.

My sister-in-law loved the original "Victoria" at Victoria's Secret and it also appears to be gone forever.

Vermont Country Store stocks a lot of older perfumes that were once very popular. It's fun to read the descriptions.

Ma Griffe, Alfred Sung I have worn for some time, Jessica McClintock I have but have not used for a while. My new favorite is Unforgivable Woman by Sean John. The name seemed rather a stupid choice but I later learned that he had started out with a man's scent Unforgivable (still questionable) but it is an intoxicating (to me) and complex scent and it comes in a very beautiful classic bottle. My mother sent me a sampler and I rolled my eyes when I saw it but I tried it and loved it. I actually wear it at home just to perk myself up. Clearly it boosts dopamine levels in me.

68. Lavender or Petite Cherie
Lavender. Mmm. I wear this in the daytime, mostly in the fall and winter. (I'm allergic to bee stings; it's good to not attract them.)

Petite Cherie smells like vanilla, peach, musk rose and freshly cut grass.

I used to work for a woman that once told me the only appropriate places to wear perfume was the backs of the knees and the crooks of the elbows. It's perfect -- you smell nice without being overpowering.

70. My ladyfriend knows that if she uses anything scented
call, don't come over. If she has been in a Pier-1 or Bed, Bathe, and Beyond take a shower before coming over.

72. COCO by Chanel...
I always get complimented on it too, must work the best with my body chemistry. I used to wear Mademoiselle in my early 20's, but now it's strictly COCO. Can't wear it during the week though, too many co-workers with allergies I guess.
