For musicians, worst job imaginable.
No, not playing some dive out in the sticks.

Worst job I can think of for singers and musicians, jingles for ads, especially on the radio.

3. At least with that...
It only appears when the movie is telecast, which isn't that often.

But a studio musician's jingle gets heard over and over and over and over...

2. I know a guy who does jingles, and he does pretty well
Of course, jingle-making is becoming a lost art, as most ads just license an already popular song and use that, instead of using an original creation.

Jingle-making can be fun and a challenge, and is oftentimes more lucrative than slogging around in a band, playing nightclubs six days a week.

5. For some of those musicians, the jingles subsidize the slogging. (nt)

18. Sound tech personnel for Nickelback (especially the poor souls at the board)?
At least the opening band might change, or they might leave the tour. The sound guys at the board have to listen to the band, night after night after night after night after night...

Every f**king song. Every f**king night. Over and over.

That is some good, old-fashioned nightmare fuel right there.

11. It's a very good job actually.
Edited on Tue Mar-24-09 03:50 PM by MilesColtrane
You make about $80-$100 an hour.
The work's during the day, so you can still play at night.
If the session's done under a union contract you get reuse fees. i.e. $$ every time it's broadcast
Very few people can actually identify that it's you cranking out the cheese. (easier if you're not a singer)

There are many more gigs out there that have soul-killing potential over jingle sessions.

15. Amen! Jingle gigs can be sweet money.
Come in, plug in the G&L, read, play, and leave. And you can have the answer to the eternal question:

Q: "Why is someone beating the hell out of that bass in the background of that commercial?"
A: "Because someone else wrote it that way."

I can't really go into more detail detail about it.
However, the unreleased Ryan Adams song "Blowing The Coug" may give you a hint.

You only have to get it right once. Of course, the advertising audience out there has to hear it again and again.
