WTF is a "kawaii" or a 'keroppi"
Ok so I joined Swap-bot to trade postcards, artist trading cards, jewelery, and other goodies with (mostly female) other likeminded individuals.

So browsing through the forums on swap-bot, I came across this rant from an adult woman who works as an LPN:

"PLEASE stop sending me keroppi!!!! he is a savage dislike of kawaii! It says this above, and it said it in my last profile. I have always hated kerropi and when i get him in a package it really ruins everything! Keroppi reminds me of a girl i used to be friends with, she loved him, our relationship ended really really badly!" and "I really like any and all kawaii except for Cinnamoroll and Keroppi. I also do not like scenes with real dogs or real foods."

Suddenly I felt very confused... as though I have wandered into some other world.

Now, 3 months ago I had no idea what an artist trading card (ATC) was, but I kept seeing ATC supplies when looking for craft supplies. A google search led me to to Flickr which had awesome pics of these mini-works of art, which then led me to Swap-bot, which seriously is a great thing for crafters, people who like to receive snail mail, or people who just like to get and give stuff. But this whole kawaii (which I understand means cute) is like a whole culture... and now I feel very old and unhip... yet

given the rant above.. I feel oddly sane.

1. My daughter liked Keroppi when she was 8.

My guess would be that some adults get into Hello Kitty, Keroppi, etc. for the escapism factor.

3. Or they just think Hello Kitty stuff is cute
There doesn't have to be a psychological excuse behind liking something.

4. I was referring to the rant described in the OP.
I agree that a lot of people just like those types of things on face value. No slur intended on those that do.:)

5. cute is ok but freaking out is extreme
as someone who loved the Powerpuff girls and had tons of PP stuff I understand, but receiving a Mojo something would not send me into a tailspin of despair

2. Kawaii is "cute" in Japanese
I think, the woman is saying she likes an art type referred to as kawaii (I would assume cute characters) except for characters Keroppi and Cinnamoroll.
