How do you eat them? As is?Do you have to cook them? What do they taste like? ( I am too scared to try one until I hear others who have had them)

1. They're very sweet.
I don't know if they're ever cooked, but on the rare occasions I've eaten them, I've eaten them right from the bag. I don't much like them, but they're very popular.

2. You can just eat them or you can cook them with stuff
I don't know much about them, because I don't care for them much.

We got a bag of them this week with our box of food from the co-op. They must be in season.

3. You can eat them plain, right out of the package -
or you can put them in baked goods like cookies, bread, and bars.

I love dates.

8. They're mostly like prunes
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 03:56 PM by rockymountaindem
I used to love to chow down on these cheap dates (har har har) from a tiny grocery store by my old dorm. Then I found out they're like 30 calories per piece, and that eating 50 of them in one night was probably bad for me. So I stopped buying them :(

But I bet they are incredibly high in calories.

20. what an awesome thing to get!
I buy them sometimes as a splurge - a store near me sells them with the pits removed and replaced with walnuts or cashews.

I've never had them stuff with cheese, but I know some people do that with a strong soft cheese, and that must be good cause it's the only thing I know of that made my daughter fall off the veganwagon for a day.

And they are good chopped up and cooked into oatmeal bars (crumbly oatmeal base, layer of date filling, more crumbly oatmeal topping).

22. extremely delicious and nutritious!
There are so many desserts to make with dates, but they are even delicious with some cream cheese and a sliced orange and a sprinkle of coconut. Wow.
