Worst spin-off show not connected to M*A*S*H* or Diff'rent Stokes?
I'd say The Lone Gunman. I think that the series made it about 3/4 of the way through the pilot episode before it got canned.

Weirdly, that episode dealt with a plan to crash a jet into the WTC via remote control...

1. That is exactly what I was going to say
It must have taken a lot of work to fuck up such a brilliant premise. :(

2. I really liked the characters, but
Every X-Files episode that was entirely about them totally sucked ass.

By the way, another contender for worst spin-off has to be Joanie loves ChaChi. I should have declared Happy Days spin-offs to be off-limits, too...

3. I thought they provided some of the best X-Files episodes
Hell, I KNEW all those guys... One was the IT teacher at my high school, one was the admin at the local JC, and one was the dude I dated twice between two other dudes... :P

They could have done something really creative with the premise, but they tried to turn it from something ultra-geeky into James Bond, and it failed.

5. One of the overall worst episodes of the series was the one with 'Invisigoth'
In which the Gunmen were up against some sort of malevolent AI that could blast people from orbit.

Another worst episode IMO was the one with Richard Belzer, told in flashback to the time when the Gunmen first worked together. Good premise, but bad execution, I thought.

The writer(s) just didn't have the chops to give these guys a whole episode, even though the characters were magnificent in supporting roles.

A missed opportunity, especially considering how much time was wasted on the Mulder's Sister and Scully's Cancer storylines.

9. I have to say
X-Files could have been the living shit, but it failed.

I didn't even watch the last 4 years, after it was obvious that the show wasn't going to wrap up its disparate plotlines. :(

But Scully cancer sucked ass. 'A doctor explores her Catholic faith as she deals with a terminal illness' :wtf: This ain't no Lifetime.

6. What I'm still trying to figure out is the connection between Andy Griffith and Petticoat Junction.
All mixed together, IIRC, are these two shows AND Green Acres AND Gomer Pyle, USMC.

Now the Gomer-Andy connection is clear enough, but...

20. I don't think there was a relation between Andy Griffith and P.J.
But Andy Griffith had two spinoffs that I know of-- Gomer Pyle, and Mayberry RFD.

Petticoat Junction led to Green Acres, I believe. Both were set in or near "Hooterville" (Hooverville). Or maybe "Hooterville" got its name from the three gals swimming in the water tower? :hide:

25. I hadn't thought of that, I thought "hooters" was about, like, "yokels"...
Those clever writers!

Now there was a character, an aunt somebody, who wore big flowery hats (a Minnie Pearl type) who appeared on P.J. and Andy Griffith.

And I believe there was a crossover in just one episode of P.J. that had Gomer, or something like that.

It was a while back, my memory, fading.

Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 01:38 AM by Art_from_Ark
from the Beverly Hillbillies. She might have made a guest appearance or two on PJ because both series were written by the same person (Paul Henning), and PJ could have actually been a spin-off of the Hillbillies.

32. That is it. So the connection is Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, and Petticoat Junction.
And there is no connection to the Andy Griffith Show web of spinoffs and connected other shows...

Ah, now I can sleep.

Little Tabitha, the precocious daughter of Darrin and Samantha Stephens is all grown up, and in a horrible sitcom, twitching her way through some really bad acting provided by Lisa Hartman (Black).

27. Lonegun Men would have been excellent if they hadn't tried to be all jokey.
It was that period when Chris Carter was getting away from the core conspiracy/UFO stuff on X-files and trying to make the show funny. That came over to LoneGunmen as well. It didn't work, and they added that idiot "Jimmy" to the mix. Why? Oh why?

A show that has three stars doesn't need anymore core characters to focus on. I kind of hope the Lonegunmen wil show up in a future X-files movie, having faked their own deaths, that would be sweet.

The LonegunMen X-files episodes are classics with the CigaretteMan backstory episode possibly being my all time favorite X-files episode.

Although "Rhoda" and "Lou Grant" were a couple decent shows...

I could have sworn they spun off a series from "Rhoda" called "Joe" but I can't find anything online about it...

:spray:

So true, however... shock jock, poorly written scribble. Well, the plots were poorly written. The EQ between characters... screw it, it's soap opera with a token veneer of "sci-fantasy" attached. In another venue, it'd be a "reality show".
