Is it douche-y to always and frequently call a server by name...?
Like at a restaurant when the server says, "My name is Rick, and I'll be your server tonight."

I dated a guy who would be like, "Oh, thank you Rick. Okay, Rick, I want the pork tenderloin tonight...is that any good, Rick? Thanks, Rick!" (All with a slightly condescending tone.)

I'm not joking---it was one of the many reasons that I broke up with him. I can't STAND douche-y behavior...

2. No! It's like he took pleasure in feeling like he was the server's
"boss".

3. I'm in sales P/T.
Trust me, I don't want to say " Hi Nikki, can I help you find anything today? Do you need anything else today, Nikki? Will this fit your needs, Nikki? Nikki, will that be cash, credit or check today? Thank you, Nikki, for shopping..."

It's called Customer Connections and they watch me like a hawk...when I don't do it, I get a ration of hell. I hate when salespeople to it to me...when I have to go upstairs and buy something for myself, I hide my name-tag and tell my salespeople my name is "Phuc To". It does well to discourage people from calling me by name. I also give restaurant reservations as "Donner".

"Donner, Party of 7, your table is ready."

6. I didn't mean to imply that ALL sales people do this.

It's just something I have observed of some people in sales. :)

They must have all attended the same "How to be a King Douche" seminar.

4. they guy you dated (it sounds like to me)
did it to be an asshole. I have people that do the same to me, in the same manner your former boyfriend did.

Now, I also have customers, generally regulars, who treat me with respect and use my name.

5. I think if it's the first time you've met a person, and you say their
name at the beginning or end of almost every sentence, that is inherently creepy/douche-y.
