2. He has a great voice.
He died a little before I went to Russia for the first time. He was HUGE there. Everyone I talked to was like, "Is it true Freddy Mercury is dead? Is it true it was from AIDS?" There was a lot of surprise that he was gay, which cracked me up, but then, it was Russia.

5. I know. It was hilarious.
It's like they knew, but didn't want to believe. I mean, this was only days after the Soviet Union voted itself out of existence, so it was very much a society that was told homosexuality was a psychological sickness. But still.

8. Queen's 70' s albums were some of the greatest records ever made
Didn't care as much for the 80's albums, but that Wembley 86 DVD proves they could still bring it live. Unfortunately that was about the time they stopped touring, because Freddie wasn't able to do it anymore :evilfrown:

9. In terms of rock/pop, yeah, easily one of.
I'd say there are a few who could vie for the title. Elvis, Meatloaf in his prime, Marvin Gaye (better singer, not as great a voice), probably a couple more, but I'd pick Mercury over them. Usually.

13. I watched a bunch of Queen videos the other night....
This one was my favorite of the bunch,
with Freddy and the rest of the band
in their prime:

14. Oh, I loved Freddie......
Freddie is one of my all time favorites.

Some time ago I saw a good documentary about him and Queen. It showed some of his own home movies and talked to his family and friends.

I wish he had of been more careful.

17. He was excellent.
In my humble opinion he was in the top three of male vocalists on the rock scene. Along with James Dewar and a young Steve Winwood.
