'Satanic' invitations go out for prom at St. Louis high school
The junior class, which hosts the prom, voted for the Seven Deadly Sins as its theme. The invitations calling all "sinners" and beckoning them to "hell" went out about three weeks ago. The invitations feature illustrations of the various deadly sins (the one for lust has a buxom woman in a long red dress) and a fiery pentagram. It states: "Let the Sin Begin."

4. I went to a Catholic high school. We didn't have any sin.
We also had the longest, ugliest cheerleader unis ever seen anywhere.

But that was long, long ago.....

5. Did you ever feel like you were missing out at least something
by going to private school instead of public school, especially the religious based ones that are strict? Was your strict? Mine sure was. I went to a Baptist Christian school until I was in 6th grade. There was no sin or even fun allowed there.

And yes, :toast:

6. I went to a catholic school from K through 12 and later 1 year at
a catholic college.
Hated it all, and repeatedly asked to transfer to a public high school but my parents said no.
I never dated any girl from school, never went to any school functions other than a few B-ball games, never did anything that would keep me in the school even a munute longer than I absolutely had to be. Learned to "sin" on my own time by playing in r'n'r bands.
The idea of school even now - I'm 61 - makes me cringe and rebel.
I used to have bad dreams about being back in the army, later had dreams about being back in school.
School was worse.

7. It sounds like you are describing much of my experience
too. Everything you described, from the nightmares, the dread, the pleas to be taken out of a religious school, trying not to spend one more second of time there than absolutely necessary, the whole works, sounds just like my experience.

3. why is ~LUST~ more noteworthy than the other six?
teenage anger OK
teenage pride OK
teenage sloth OK
teenage envy OK
teenage gluttony OK
teenage greed OK
teenage lust just one more outrageous example about how we've become the new Sodom and Gomorrah!

8. Freedom of religion, warped as it is...
Another reason to keep religion out of school; that... garbage is inexcusable.

9. Ugh ugh ugh...
why do I read this crap... why?

Her cherrypicked comments... the anti-intellectualism... the few readers' responses I made the mistake of reading... uggggggggh.

I only wanted to see pictures of the other invitations, to see if the pentagram was properly oriented. :(

10. I might have gone to my prom had my class showed such imagination
Instead, I think it was some awful thing like "Moonlight Under the Elms." I went to a party down by the river instead.

14. I'll take the second circle for $200, Alex.
Very creative...but...what were the students thinking?!? This is like waving a red flag in front of the fundies. Surest way of having the school administration come down HARD on their butts I can think of, short of having the school paper advocate for marijuana decriminalization.

Oh well. We were all young and stupid once. I vote for sloth, lust and gluttony. Those are the only sins that are fun - the rest are just bummers.

And it beats "Under the Sea", which was the theme of my Junior Prom. It's probably a lot more fun to make crepe paper flames than all those papier-mâché starfish.
