Request for advice: there are tiny little bugs flying out of the drain of my bathroom sink
What do I do? They are tiny little bugs that fly around for a little while and then die.

Is anyone familiar with this situation? I don't know, I guess they may be fruit flies. Tiny little, annoying bugs.

Does anyone know the cause, and more importantly, the cure to this problem. Thanks!

1. eek these are shit flies, they are very common in jail,
we pour bleach down the offending drain, this will kill them off for a while, but they always seem to return.

5. They are called drain flies
Clean the trap and you should be fine. They are relatively harmless just so you know. Bleach is a good answer but it would help too if you could take the trap out and remove and gunk in it so there is no breeding ground for them. We had them at my apartment and once I found out what they were and where they came from it took about 10 minutes to clean the trap and I have not seen them since.

7. thanks
I went to the store today and got a bottle of RotoRooter gel, and poured that down the drain, followed by some boiling water. It seems to have helped some anyway. I've since spotted a few dead bugs, but I think they may've already been flying around before I did that. If it becomes apparent that that didn't solve the problem, I will see about cleaning out the trap. Sounds like a pretty disgusting job, but these bugs are way more disgusting.

Thanks!

6. Pour a cup of liquid bleach down the drain, let it sit for a half hour
or so, run hot water in it.

Should be done every week or so.
