Poll question: Best Sesame Street song ever (tough call, I know)
Edited on Sun Mar-29-09 12:14 PM by HopeHoops
This is limited to songs on SESAME STREET, so "Rainbow Connection" from the Muppets Movie is OUT!

Edited for spelling

By far the best, most wonderful song of Kermit's. Here he is singing it with Debbie Harry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRvhRhWWE44

14. I mentioned Rainbow Connection in the OP.
I thought that was just Muppet Movie - didn't know it had been on the show.

17. Yes, it was the Muppet Movie. You changed your OP message after I had posted my
response. I must say you were a tad on the brusque side. Geez...

18. No, that was there originally - read on.
I edited the post because I had "It's" instead of "Its" in the song "It's not easy being green". The exclusion of Rainbow Connection was there in the very first OP.

What I was SAYING is that I didn't realize that it had EVER been done on the show! That's really cool. I thought it was just a Muppet Movie thing. And somebody told me it was originally a Willie Nelson tune, but I've never bothered to verify that.

There was certainly no offense, or "brusque", intended in my response!

26. Thank you for your kind response. I did not see what you refer to in your first posting.
However, I do not doubt your word; I could have been mistaken, but if I am I am beginning to doubt my sanity...

As for my feelings, well, I felt you had singled me out for condemnation in your OP with caps and all and I felt "well, it is such a nice subject, Sesame Street and all, why this?"

Oh well, thanks for listening. I really like "The Rainbow Connection" nonetheless. Sometimes, I can't hear it without crying a little bit...

And the opening scene zooming in on Kermit in the swamp is just amazing. I love that movie.

Favorite quote: "Jack not name. Jack JOB!"

41. I don't believe that it was originally a Willie Nelson song, though he has covered it
My recollection (verified by Wiki) is that the song first appeared in The Muppet Movie. A friend of mine had the sheet music back in 82 or so, and I recall that Paul Williams (the pianist at the El Sleazo Cafe) wrote it. Cowrote it, as it turns out, with Kenneth Ascher.

Wiki doesn't mention that the song was ever performed on Sesame Street, though it could have been.

My all-time fave is the Count's. I don't remember it quite this way, but it's the funniest thing since those bouncing aliens with the telephone. :7

I have the original Sesame Street LP. . . wonder if it's worth anything.

40. I will never forget the first time I saw Stevie Wonder sing "Superstition" on Sesame Street. I was
three or four, and lived in a small town in Nebraska and had no idea there was music like that in the world. I remember thinking there was something wrong with him -- not because he rocked back and forth, or that he was blind, but because of the way he sang...the growls, the screams, the strange pronunciation of the words. I remember loving it, though, and I still think that version of "Superstition" is my favorite.

Oh, and the guy playing the guitar, with the hat -- I remember thinking, why is he nodding "yes"? And now shaking his head "no"? HE'S MAKING NO SENSE!

the "Sunny day" Sesame Street song as done by Joshua Radin on Scrubs recently.

I am way older than Sesame Street watcher age, but my 33 year old daughter said it brought her to tears.
