My kitty died yesterday
Edited on Sun Mar-29-09 01:25 PM by latebloomer
My beautiful placid exotic long-haired gray cat Loki died yesterday morning. I feel
so very sad and guilty. He was only four years old. He had a bladder
obstruction and we saw no signs of it till he started meowing a lot Friday.
We should have rushed him to emergency Fri nite but figured he didn't seem that
ill and we could wait till 8 AM to have him seen. He died while they were
getting ready to catheretize him- his blood counts were crazy.

We all feel so bad. I really miss my little man.

In the past I've had cats with urinary problems but you always saw them straining in the litter box so you knew there was a problem. My MIL scoops the box, but didn't mention that there was nothing in there. But even so, I can't blame her, because he often went down to the basement and peed on the floor- we've had issues with him not always using the box all along.

I am so sad. He was the kind of gentle little guy who would put up with
everything- like washing his poopy butt off in the tub- without scratching or
clawing you. He was gorgeous enough, with his amazing green eyes and lovely
long coat, to adorn a can of "Fancy Feast". One of the prettiest and sweetest
cats I've ever seen.

Everything passes, too fast.

10. Sorry to hear
I had a cat that had urinary obstructions, a male cat

I found him on two different occasions with dilated pupils hiding in the kitchen and he'd growl at me when I'd go near him.

After the first time I knew what was likely wrong, but that first time I wasn't sure at all. He was becoming uremic though.

He ended up with surgery where they snipped the crooked part at the end of a male cat's penis and he never had another problem like that. His obstruction was caused by uric acid crystals. He ate Science Diet after that at the Vet's suggestion.

Low ash food.

sorry again for your loss, losing kitties before they are old is one reason I don't have cats (besides the fact I can't have pets where I live right now) that cat finally died of electrocution, biting into a power cord behind the entertainment center.

My first cat of my own was a house cat who got out and got his rear end run over enough to damage the bladder nerves. Survived that but couldn't pee on his own so he and I decided after 3 weeks that he was ready to go.

25. My heart goes out to you.
I'm so sorry, and I know how badly it hurts.

Please don't blame yourself. I know there is a tendency to wish to do that, but we have to forgive ourselves for whatever we imagine we did wrong. Yes, sometimes it is hard.

There are some fantastic books about how to recover and grieve for our pets who die, and also a few amazing websites.

I love the Rainbow Bridge site. It has gotten me through some very hard times.

Take good care, and try not to be too hard on yourself, please...

Mike

We lost our beloved Tate very suddenly back in October (aneurysm). Just remember - though the pain never totally goes away, it does get better each day.

We have a table in the living room with ashes and pictures of all our departed pets. This is our fifth. Their lives are too damn short.
