UNC doesn't irk me as much for some weird reason. I think I'll root for MSU...

7. Never feel sorry for DUke
one of the most interesting things about watching a Duke game is you almost never see a replay. Having a DVR or TiVo allows me to watch in dismay the phantom calls they get- they tend to add up to 8-10 points a game from the line.

Don't even get me STARTED on Wake.... just kidding

24. Well we have to remember that this is only the second season since their coach dropped dead
that is very hard to keep going after. They did not lose a single recruit because of it-THAT is a good program.

Wake was good. Lots of teams are good. One day/night one gets hot the other one doesn't --it is over.

8. The UNC icon Dean Smith is/was a great progressive
His support and financial contributions have gotten countless Dems elected in NC, including the first African-American to win an election in a majority white district Post-reconstruction.

10. Big time
Big anti-death penalty guy way before it was in the mainstream

Charlie Scott was a determined and pointed decision

Dean was also a big NO NUKES proponent back the 70's when that movement succeeded

I didn't know that about Smith until fairly recently. NC is very progressive in a lot of ways (the school and the state). Jessie Helm never had a safe run for as long as he was in the Senate.

46. The Laurie Dhue Phenomenon
I get the "hot news reader" thing and being a news junkie I have my favorites but I kept hearing absolutely gushing reverance of Laurie Dhue from guys I knew were Republicans. I never understood the level of panting slobber producing fawning over her. Fox has several hot chicks showing leg (that was the obvious point of the network at the beginning) but I couldn't see how Laurie Dhue was that outstanding from the field.

"One quick touchdown and they are right back in it" :)

"UNC is interesting that they just pile up points-it is hard for anyone to stay with them."

Especially when the other team turns the ball over this much. And it doesn't help that the best player in the country only took one shot in the first 11 minutes.

Still a long game, though :)

there will be runs in the second half (UNC scored 12 in 30 seconds against Gonzaga) OK just has to have two--- or one really big one

18. Not really
Blake's one rebound shy of a double-double at halftime and he's only missed one shot from the floor. Once he started getting the ball after the under-8 time out he's pretty much single-handedly kept Oklahoma in the game.

Make UNC rotate people on them (due to fouls).

UNC is just deep in scoring with everyone on the starting five. Everyone can score from everywhere.

27. some thoughts on the first half
North Carolina clearly outhustled Oklahoma for most of that half. Not just in going after loose balls and not giving up on plays, but also in their energy on defense, which clearly disrupted the Sooners at the start (and for the first 12 minutes or so).

Some of the shots that Oklahoma missed from outside were good looks, but even so UNC has done a good job disrupting their rhythm and clearly has OU's outside shooters rattled, as evidenced by the fact that they passed up about a dozen open looks in the last five minutes or so.

The game has been pretty even since Blake Griffin got to the foul line for the first time with about 8 and a half minutes left. Up until then, he had only taken one shot, and on many of Oklahoma's possessions he didn't even touch the ball. From that point on, though, he scored 11 points, didn't miss a shot, and UNC's lead has stayed at about 9 points.

Danny Green has been outstanding.

32. Carolina comes in waves
They always have. Now though every in the starting five can put up 20 depending on who gets the ball and how the D is set

Thompson has made two buckets already in the second half-the first one he should not have made- that is what UNC does points points points if you can't score 90 don't show up with them. No role players just scorers.
