1. I've been cranking the new Chris Isaak album...
though I can't say as I'm representative of the usual lounge crowd.

Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 01:58 AM by ghostsofgiants
Which is by far one of the best albums of the decade.

10. Finch? really?
I don't hear it at all, and I used to listen to a lot of Finch when I was in high school. ...Trail of Dead's more recent stuff is okay but not quite as great as that album.

8. My current earworm is U2 - "Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hekg73Dh_Y

"Nothin' much to say I guess
You're just the same as all the rest
Been tryin' to throw your arms around the world
And a woman needs a man
Like a fish needs a bicycle
When you're tryin' to throw your arms around the world..."

A bit ironic though, because what's Bono been doing in the years since, if not trying to throw his arms around the world? :P

15. Hi petersond!
Today, not much -

Another listen to Company Of Thieves, a group that I find to be good. And listened to Keith Urban's Defying Gravity. Defying Gravity is a little too cookie cutter and puppy-love for my tastes. Download "When Summer Comes Around," "Hit The Ground Runnin," and maybe "If I Could Ever Love."

17. Neko Case, MIDDLE CYCLONE
The best album of the year so far. Dense, lyrical, passionate, barking mad.

http://www.themusicfix.co.uk/content/review/5610/neko-case.html

"Middle Cyclone is effectively The Jungle Book rewritten by Sylvia Plath and performed by Loretta Lynn. If you didn't know better you'd think its creator was raised by wolves. It's all the magic, tragedy, brutality and beauty of nature - a twisted Disney subterranea of whales, starlings, spiders, doves, magpies and fireflies. It's a peek under the surface, or as the Situationists' believed “Under the pavement, the beach!”. It's also a record of discovery, cracking one-liners, melodic twisters and rich, unexpected sounds."

18. Kick - American Idol now - my evaluations so far
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 07:43 PM by mvd
Danny's actually been the best so far. That was also the best I've heard him. Still not a fan, but I give him credit - I'd take that version over Rascal Flatts's.

Out of 25:

Anoop - 13 (vocals weren't bad, but an Usher song needed more swagger)
Megan - 8 (worse than last week; the vocals just grated the whole way at the same tone)
Danny - 20
Alison - 14 (bad song choice)

19. More
Scott - 13/25 (more emotional, but the vocals just weren't there)
Matt - 12/25 (I like him when he does R&B - but rock makes him sing poor immitations)
Lil Rounds - 14/25 (she belted the heck out of it - but the catch was that this is a soft song)

27. Final of the night
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 08:27 PM by mvd
Adam 21/25 (his best performance by far - I thought he sounded a little like Steven Tyler)
Kris 21/25 (well sung - but I didn't go as nuts as the judges)

This was really a backwards week for me. Thought Danny, Adam, and Kris did the best.

I know some people don't like the show, but it's worth it just to see them play.
