Poll question: Jell-O: Favorite Flavor?
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 03:15 PM by SacredCow
I just recently came to re-discover the jiggly goodness of Jell-O. Yeah, it really has no food value- but the sugar-free variety is almost completely devoid of calories, too- so you can eat the whole bowl and not really feel too bad about it!

So what flavors do you like?

2. I'm kind of partial to orange, too....
The only flavor that I don't really care for is raspberry- there's just something funny about it to me.

3. A good recipe for potlucks is this:
3 pkgs. raspberry jello (the smaller boxes)
3 cans stewed tomatoes (14 oz. I think)
6 drops Tabasco sauce

Bring 1 cup of water to boil, and place it in a large bowl. Add all the jell-o and stir until dissolved. Add all the tomatoes and the Tabasco and stir thoroughly. Pour into molds. This makes a tomato aspic with a sweetness and a spiciness. Everyone will be guessing what is in it. Serve with a bowl of sour cream on the side as a topping.

5. At first glance....
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 03:33 PM by SacredCow
that sounds vile, but further consideration makes me think it might be kind of interesting.... I think I would try it with the extra-spicy Ro-Tel tomatoes....

12. I would try it first as the recipe is
you could try a sample of it by just using one package of jell-o, one can of stewed tomatoes and 1/3 cup hot water, and 2 drops Tabasco, and see how you like that. If you like stuff really spicy then tally ho, whatever works for you. It sounds like a strange mixture but I really like it. It's unusual and kind of mysterious but tasty. I guarantee people will ask, "What's in this?" If you like tomato aspic then you'll like this recipe.

13. I was definitely thinking of trying a small batch first....
I've not found much that was too spicy for me- I think most of us here in Louisiana have fried the heat receptors in our mouths...

10. I didn't know Altoids have gelatin in them....
I wonder why? Just to absorb moisture, maybe?

I dunno- maybe I'm weird, but the origin of gelatin doesn't bother me in the slightest.

18. If you get plain (unflavored) gelatin, you can ...
... make it with any juice you choose, no sweetening necessary. I like grapefruit flavored, nice and refreshing.

23. Other: Black Cherry
...with black cherries in it. My mother once passed on to me the knowledge that pairing a Jell-O flavor with a complementary fruit improves it so mightily that it can serve as a dessert by itself. Even Orange is given new life with the addition of white-trashy canned Mandarin oranges. Don't take my word for it; try it yourself.
