Please tell me how to find a home for this cat. Damnit! So frustrated....
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 11:41 AM by Bertha Venation
He came to us in September, torn up and starving

He healed and bulked up (!)

We found he has no chip and that he is in fact declawed in all fours

We posted ads on petfinder.com (which I find sucks) and craigslist and on job classifieds boards

We had a serious nibble that ultimately did not bite

And now, we're trying to pull together innovative ways of advertising this beautiful, sweet cat so we can find him a home.

Got any ideas? Thanks.

1. He's so sweet. Reminds me of one of my guys.

Can you make up a flyer with his story and post it in a few store windows? We have a pet supply store that lets people do that.

(edited to say: It's a pet supply store, not really a pet store. The only pets sold there are fish.)

Good luck. I appreciate your tenacity, and I understand your frustration.

2. Thanks, Arugula
Good idea. I can put one together and at least post it at my vet's office.

3. I wish I could take him
:(

on an unrelated note...do you have any kittens looking for homes. I have a friend (or more accurately, I should say, my parents have a friend) in Annapolis who is looking for a kitten. It would be birthday present for his son...so he's looking for something young, so they can grow up together.

5. what a sweet idea!
The best bet is the nearest humane society. They're all bursting with kittens right now. Your parents' friend will have to pay a fee that covers the cat's spay/neuter and shots. That is the best way to go.

10. That's what I told him...
then I thought, 'well maybe Bertha has a kitten litter she's trying to deal with' :)

somehow, I've become the go to person to ask for kittens. I haven't actually had a kitten in seven years, but people expect that I have sources. :D

6. No.
Since he's declawed, his only defense is, well, to be nasty. He's very good at it.

I know that in time he would warm up to people and maybe even to another cat. But I am hoping to find him a place where he can be by himself. I think that's how he'll feel safest.

7. then I can't take him either
I'm sure Esther would love the company while I'm away at work, but I wouldn't be around in case Angel picked any fights.

8. Oh, no.
I am so sorry. I wouldn't say he'd pick a fight, but that he hisses and growls to keep the other cats away. The only time he thwacks at them is to slap them through the glass of the back door.

I'm sure Esther would love the company too. Maybe you can find her a grown buddy at the humane society.

14. I'd actually be more worried about Angel than Esther
Esther has all of her claws and my torn up hands are proof enough that she's not afraid to use them. I'd be afraid that Angel would corner Esther and Esther would then attack Angel.

If you have to take Angel to a shelter, try the Washington Animal Rescue League. They're the ones I got Esther from. It's a no kill shelter and they will go out of the way to get their cats adopted. In fact before I got Esther, they had scheduled her to be on the local news as a way to broadcast her and get her adopted.

18. That looks so much like my Richard that I gasped.
Richard's at the Rainbow Bridge. I have a couple of pictures of him in a similar pose, with a similar look on his face, and they could be identical twins.

So allow me to say, what a stunningly handsome companion you have. :)

11. Hi Bertha...
What a sweetie you've got there!

How 'bout tag all your "local-ish" friends on Facebook in a note, with info about him and requests to pass the info along to anyone they know who might be interested? :)

15. Photocopy his picture onto flyers. Post them at all the vet hospitals and grocery stores
in your area. I did that with an abandoned cat that was handed to me. I found a family for that cat in 2 days.
