I think my Mom is dying

The nursing home called this morning, and she's declining rapidly. I think it's getting close.

I can't stop crying.

I have to call all of the family today, and I don't know if I can do it.

I don't know what else to say...

When we got the diagnosis that my dad had an inoperable brain tumor it was me who had to call family and friends. I broke down more than once. I was lucky enough to have my mom with me that day. She was with me even though my parents were divorced. I am sure sniffa will be there for your support.

If you can't face calling your relatives, call ONE relative to whom you're close and ask that person to call everyone else. That's what we did when my stepfather died last year.

64. My heart goes out to you, I just went through this last August.

We lost my 65 yr. old mother to a fall and subsequent stroke.

Just put one foot in front of the other...ask family members or clergy to help in any way. Let neighbors help when they offer. Don't turn anyone down. Don't expect too much from yourself. Call your doctor to ask for some meds--it really can help you get through this time to get things done.

One thing my sister and I did was to put pictures together of Mom. We copied a bunch of them into black and whites then framed some and put them on an easel, as well as did a giant collage of other fun pics. We made a table with all of that, including her framed teaching and nursing degrees, her pins, wedding photos, etc. We pulled out her favorite walking stick, her goofy gardening hat and gloves (she was an obsessive vegetable gardener!), etc. It was a huge homage to Mom and her family and friends LOVED it! So many of them were in those pictures and it really blessed them (and of course there were many tears). Putting those pics together was hard--had to call my sister to help because I got stuck and just couldn't go on. We took some time out to put together in the church and just took our time. We paced ourselves and finished it, knowing that Mom would be very happy because it was a celebration.

The point is to just take one hour at a time--it will get better. It won't be easy (I'm really struggling with depression this year due to events from last year, still). But it will get better. And let people help you when they offer--you're only human and death is one struggle we all share together as humans.
