Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band: what's the difference?
Can somebody explain it to me, please? I've only played Guitar Hero.

1. Rock Band, like Jazz Band, has multiple instruments.
RB has drum kit, bass, guitar and mic.

JB has a sax, mini-kit (Bass, snare, hi-hat), stand up bass and guitar.

4. I love JB, the stand up bass is much harder to play than it looks.

3. A lot of the music overlaps between the two. Rockband has way more music to download. I think GH is
a tad bit more challenging than Rockband, I've played the same songs on the same level in both games and gotten smoked on the GH version.

5. Music selection, controllers are slightly different, the new GH has a built-in custom song creation
tool, RB does not, I believe.

I've grown to like these games, as Rock Band and the new Guitar Hero let me practice singing and give me a place to talk about music with some of my not otherwise musically-inclined peers.

6. Wait for Ska Band to come out
It's going to have no less than 8 fake instruments in a box you can buy for 400 dollars at Costco.

7. Rock band seems a bit easier...
More drunken-fun-at-parties appropriate than GH, at least in my experience. Both are fun, though!

8. Haven't played GH but I think the difference is mostly in the available songs
Guitar Hero seems more mainstream

Rock Band has songs everyone will know (Gimme Shelter / Don't Fear the Reaper) but has lots of bands that I've never heard of and quasi-obscure stuff like the Pixies.

Rock Band releases new songs every week available to purchase via download at about $2 apiece or at a slightly lower rate for packs of tracks.

We've spent an embarrassingly large about on the Downloadable content but it does keep the game from getting stale.
