People who write malware should be necklaced!
Yeah. Like in Africa, with gasoline and tires.

:argh:

My sister's husband just called me - some program called "System Security 2009" oh-so-helpfully installed itself on their system. Of course, it's not really anti-virus software, but malware, and it's throwing endless "security" popups offering to clean their system in exchange for a credit card number. Of course, it's using dirty tricks to prevent uninstallation, and making this pile of shit go away involves killing processes, hacking the registry, and so on - beyond their ken. So I'll have to head out there with a removal tool of some sort.

To those who write malware, eat shit and die!

Thank you for reading my murderous rant.

1. Start with a freeware utility called Combofix.exe
It's easy enough to find via Google, and it's a real good starting point. Also download and install the latest version of Spybot Search & Destroy- using its advanced tools you can do quite a bit of good.

Trust me. I do this for a living, and have found these to be invaluable tools.

3. Mmmm. Spybot!!!
I'll toss a copy of that on my nerdstick for when I head out - I think it'll catch System Security and make it go away - might as well make sure the system's thoroughly cleaned off.

And I'll bring some old tires...

2. I know that one. I only caught a co-worker from installing it by sprinting down the hallway
when I heard "OMG I have 300 viruses!"

It's a nasty fuck, and I'll bring the gasoline.
