13. I know a little
especially the weird way of talking, though she was out of practice, having lived in Ontario for almost 30 years before we met (online.) But, she was born in Newfoundland and their huge family lived there until she was 12 (her father was a merchant marine on the Great Lakes.) Newfoundland has an Irish and British historical connection, right? I know she talked about Newfie music being like Irish music :)

Did you ever see the South Park episode where they had to travel the only road in Canada cross-country to Newfoundland, only to find out they were going the wrong way? My wife loved that one :D

14. I feel so dumb.
You're from Houston and you know far more about the peoples from Newfoundland than I do.

Heck,in the last 5 years or so I've been more informed about what was going on in

the U.S,Europe and the Middle East than in Canada.

You met your wife online ? Cool ! How long have you been together ?

15. Unfortunately, it's ex-wife now
but we met on a now defunct spiritual messagebaord (it was based out of Switzerland, if I recall correctly.) We were married for about 7 and a half years but knew each other for almost nine years at the end of it. We're still friends, though she moved to WA as she's still acclimated to that kind of weather. And the existence of real seasons :P

Oh, the other thing I remember her telling me about the people of Newfoundland is that they are often considered the "less intelligent" citizens of Canada by those in Ontario and possibly other territories. I do believe she said that those that live on/in PEI (Prince Edward Island) are generally hated/looked down on by all Canadians (don't remember why.)

She's far from being less intelligent, and that goes for the rest of her surviving family. I think she said that when they got to Ontario, she was either placed back a grade or was bored with the one for her age because they had already covered those subjects in Newfoundland! :D

Don't feel bad about not knowing this much even about your own country. Other than traveling to other states here when I was much younger, or going to the one wedding that was in Colorado, I haven't been to anywhere else on this continent since. And now I'm about to fly to another "New" country, i.e., New Zealand, in about two and a half weeks to meet my new girldfriend, also met online

16. Oops,sorry for the ex-wife ...

Shit,so you heard all those Newfie jokes ? Lol.OK...

Err,I'm pretty sure that where you live there are jokes about

other peoples living in another state or something, right ?

So you just replace the name of the xxx with Newfie and there it is.

I have to admit that those jokes were pretty popular over here in Quebec

in the 60s, and 70s until the mid 80s and now the word Newfie is

replaced by something else.Well for me it's Freeper most of the time. :)
