7. There's a homeless guy downtown Denver
he can't afford shoes, so he goes and gets a roll of duct tape and wraps his feet. He has a razor scooter too and he'll get off the bus and take off on the scooter, duct taped feet and all!

28. My son the computer engineering major, never has paid much attention
to his clothing as long as it is clean and covers him. Once when he was in high school, he noticed that he needed new sneakers when the soles started flopping lose. Since he couldn't buy a new pair at 10PM on a weekday, he wrapped duct tape around them to hold them in place. The funny part is that several other kids noticed this and started a style of wrapping duct tape around perfectly good sneakers. Apparently they mistook his preoccupied attitude as being cool!

4. The plastic tubes on my hamster's cage
The little bastard chewed a hole in his tube that getting bigger and bigger every day. Solution? Duct tape that puppy shut. Now if I notice he's chewed through the duct tape. Easy... just rip off another piece and slap it on top. I worried he might get sick but apparently he's immune to duct tape toxins.

8. I used to work in a counter top factory
The work area was very dusty and dirty and we weren't expeted to dress up nice, as long as we had our shirts and pants on.

Anyway, one of the linemen ripped his jeans wide open! So what does he do? He duct tapes it back. He went a few days like that too!

Edited on Sat Apr-04-09 01:05 PM by Tikki
our gear shifter (manual transmission/three-on-tree) worked it's way loose
just as we parked to go to a concert. Prob Jethro Tull, Mr. Tikki says...
Anyway, we said we'd deal with it after the show.

While in line waiting to get in, we found a roll of duct tape..we snagged it and
after the show was over we worked the shifter back into the mechanism, duct taped it
really well...and drove home the 30 miles.

17. A DUCT!
First time I ever saw the stuff. 76. Was working in a lumber mill, and they had all these ducts that carried sawdust around. And when they would get clogged, they opened a panel, unclogged the clog, and then taped it back with DUCT TAPE! everyone would steal it, you could not get it in the stores then, so they had to lock the rolls up in the tool bin so we wouldn't steal anymore.

I used the roll I stole to fix my favorite softball bat. It cracked and I wrapped it with duct tape and worked prety well for a while...

23. Waterbed leaks . . .
A dab of superglue, slap on a strip of ducttape - et voila! No more leak.

I finally found out why my waterbed used to spring so many leaks, btw . . . . my now 28 yo daughter confessed that she used to poke holes in it when she was mad at me. It used to drive me crazy!! Especially those slooooooooooooooooow leaks where you wake up in the middle of the night WET and you don't know why. aaaarrrrrrrgggghhhhhhh...

The worst time was really an accident, though - a large metal tag had fallen off my luggage and fell down the side. About 3:00 in the morning, I was up to the sound of water - not just dripping but pouring and splashing. I got up and sure enough there was this huge hole in the waterbed. I got some pots to collect the water (splashing around on the carpet) while I went and got the hose, found the connector kit, hooked it up and drained the waterbed into the tub . . . .

Did I mention that I was very sick with a 102 degree temp and throwing up every 1/2 hour or so??

OMG that had to be one of the absolute WORST experiences of my LIFE!!!

Then my boss called me the next morning wanting to know why I wasn't at work yet. :eyes:

25. A tent pole
Duct tape is necessary when camping.

Also, if you're doing field work, duct tape keeps the seeds out of your socks. Just tape your pants to your shoes and you're good to go. Works pretty well for ticks (and probably chiggers) too.

27. Bandage . . . my son
was at kungfu class several years ago and they were grappling. He had a very large old skateboarding scab on his elbow that was ripped off. Of course, if there's "blood" you have to leave the class, so he went to the bathroom, washed it off, grabbed the duct tape and taped over the wound so no more bleeding! It worked. (He was 10 at the time.)

32. 1962
Gleaner A-2 combine. It had so many holes that when we patched it the tape would begin to work loose and it looked like a pile of grey fettuccine going across the bean field.

Had a pair of ankle high work shoes once that were too tight on one ankle. I wrapped several layers of duct tape around my sock every day for about a week to loosen up the shoe. Worked great.

34. The bow of the sailboat
There wasn't anything wrong with it, but we learned a couple of long tows of duck tape placed on the bow will caution other boats to keep their distance from us. It generally worked, especially approaching a buoy.

Oh fwiw, it's duck tape, not duct tape. Duck tape is the worst thing to use for sealing ducting in homes. Studies have demonstrated it has a failure rate approaching 100% in a few short years.
