I really fucking hate 60s revivalist shit.

For fucks sake, LET IT GO ALREADY. It is OVER. Do something new, something relevant for this fucked-up time. Don't keep screwing the rotting, bloated corpse of a long-gone era in order to turn a quick buck.

Everybody knows nostalgia never plays as good as the original.

:nuke:

1. I saw the original on Broadway in 1969.
I loved it at the time, but a re-do would seem like a quaint museum piece now.

2. Exactly! They've updated some of the dialogue, but that's it
Even something like RENT to me seems dated nowdays. I saw the original tour of the Broadway cast 13 years ago, and even then the music seemed like something out of the late 70s, like REO Speedwagon or Styx-- not at all appropriate for GenX hepsters in New York.

I guess it just goes to show that even Broadway is desperate these days to make a buck, in these recessionary times.

I bet the original production in 1969 was pretty cool though... :D

3. Broadway has always been desperate to make a buck... Phantom of the Opera for example.
I mean, come ON! Over 20 years of that shit!

4. Right on! Same goes for CATS
I mean, how many freaking cats do you need to see?

And don't get me started on Starlight Express. I saw that monstrosity in London 18 years ago. Actors dressed up in train suits on rollerskates. Yay. Andrew Lloyd Weber should be put out to see with the fucking tide.

5. The 1969 production was cool, nekkid actors and all.
And I still like some of the music. But I can't see how updated dialogue would do anything for it now. Why not come up with some new stuff? -- or is that just too damn much work?

produced a true to the original script version of Hair about 2 years ago where I live.
What struck me was how much stuff was going on in 1967! It almost made today seem not so bad................except I had more hope then, probably because I was a kid.
