Why does grocery stores hide stuff?
I do my grocery shopping, and the non-grocery stuff like kid's toys, school supplies, etc are packed around the center of the store, while groceries are at opposite sides! :wtf:

1. Because they want you to see the stuff you weren't planning to buy and get so overcome
with desire for it, that you buy it.

This is also why stores move things around every few months. The more you have to look for stuff, the more extra stuff you pick up.

2. I think you're right.
It can be just maddening sometimes.

Even the bloody Wal-Marts are laid out better.

3. I believe it's because many stores have entrances to the right and
left of the middle of the store. That way, regardless of the door you enter, you are right there where the food items are.

4. The local Pick 'N Save grocery store has one main entrance.
And then all traffic inside is shunted to the right by blocked aisles.

(Right now when someone first enters the store, it's all Easter stuff.)

8. I doubt that's why...or else why would Milk be in the back when most people buy it at the store?

6. The more distance you cover in the store, the better.
And the more "natural" and "healthy" staples are on opposite sides. 99 times out of 100 you'll need to cross the whole store to pick up fresh veggies, milk, eggs and fresh meat/seafood. Usually those things run the entire outside perimeter of the store.
