Mom update:
So, I just talked to my brother...Mom has indicated that she's willing to get the tracheostomy and the permanent ventilator. BUT, only if they can figure out how to manage her leg pain, which is excruciating. Otherwise, it's not worth it to her. Nobody wants to live in pain.

So that's where we're at right now.

:hi:

2. I had a good day, actually
I spent the better part of it in the garden and yard, working my ass off. Manual labor feels good when I'm feeling crazy.

4. I hope that they can find something to ease her pain.
My heart goes out to you and your family. It all seems to be very frustrating.

Continued good vibes.

6. Are they looking into the idea of surgically destroying those nerves?
It's a last resort for patients who can't have narcotics long-term, and she might lose leg function earlier than she would have otherwise, but it's a guaranteed knock-out for the pain. You can't feel pain in dead nerves, after all, and doing leg nerves requires no brain surgery, and usually just a local spinal-block anesthetic, so no general anesthesia to be worried about.

I think the procedure is called a cordotomy, but I'm sure your Mom's docs will know better than I would.

7. It's good that she's able to communicate
with you what she wants, no matter what it is. It's great that she has a family who cares so much and is doing whatever it takes to follow her wishes. It's hard--but that is very loving.
