Well, Mrs R has been telling me that I need to get my head examined, so I did.
(I had to make a joke out of the situation, you know me, but I figured I owed you wonderful people an update after all the very touching replies to Cal Peg's thread about me not feeling well.)

Brain MRI on Saturday - first without, than another pass with a marker dye. Oddly enough, even with all the noise and banging I fell asleep yet again, as I've done in MRIs before. And I don't even like loud noises.

That following TWELVE tubes of blood taken on Friday.

If the doctor can't figure out what's wrong after all this, I give up.

I'm sleeping 16 hours a day, and falling down a lot. Got an impressive collection of bruises, though. Maybe I should post them on youtube; it might be some kind of record for one body.

So far, the likely culprits are either a spike in the MS, or the dreaded Big Leu-thing, because my white blood-cell count is astronomical and I've had Hemochromatosis for like forever.

But I gotta tell you, it was damn embarrassing walking into the clinic using a cane and with my older son holding my other elbow. I'm not THAT old, for God's sake.

But not to worry. I'm a Vermont Yankee after all, and our standard reply to stuff like this is "Ah, I'll be fine." And we usually are, because we're so damn cussed and stubborn.

Thank you all so much again for all your concern and good wishes. You guys are great. I'll be back as soon as I can, though it may not be soon.

Redstone

14. Good luck, and hoping it's just a vitamin deficiency or some such thing.
And don't be so embarrassed about needing a helping hand into the doctor's. Be proud of the one who gives it to you, it's evidence you've done a good job in this world. :)

19. So nice to see you, Redstone
But what a miserable time you've been having. I really hope the doctors can figure out what the hell is wrong. My mom has a bunch of odd things going on that have been 'managed' by meds, though no one has ever really stuck to a positive diagnosis. But she has relief from pain and lives a pretty fulfilling life. Even if the drs. can't say "Redstone has X" I hope they can consult and give you some relief. I do know it took all of my mom's doctors - neurologist, internist, cardiologist and a few others tossed in there to devise the best treatment for her.

Hope you can stay in touch with CaliforniaPeggy or someone who can let us know periodically that you're hanging in there, or if you need anything.

All my very very best to you  and your family.

21. I didn't know you had MS.
My aunt has the progressive form of MS. She has lost function slowly but sure in all limbs except her right arm. It started with a limp on her left leg, then her left arm went then her right leg started giving way on her. She has her right arm left, but sometimes it doesn't even want to cooperate with her. She jokes a lot about it though. That seems to keep her spirits up. That's the main thing, because they won't or can't do anything much for her at the VA.

In any case, I hope you stop falling and start feeling better very soon.

Sometimes that can help slow the progression.

And you're a damn good friend, which is more important than looks, of course. Thank you for the kind words and wishes.

36. Good to see your name back on the board.
Funny you mentioned falling asleep during an MRI. I did the same my first time in one. I remember it was a summer afternoon and I was framing houses. It felt so good just to lie down I dozed off about half way through despite all the noise. I think if there was an audio recording from hell it would sound just like the infernal racket of an MRI machine.

I hope you're able to get a handle on all that's plaguing you these days and come back sooner than you think. I hope you get good news.
