7. what is the deal with someone in the dugout throwing a ball to the first baseman...

as he comes off the field?

that has to be a superstition of some sort.

does anyone know what it means?

9. I don't think it's a superstition or standard procedure

It's done on some clubs so the first baseman isn't looking for a ball at the end of the half-inning to start infield warm-ups. He just keeps it in his glove while his side's at bat.

That's the only thing I can figure. :shrug:
