God, it really is gonna be Star Trek 90210.

They're in post production; tell God he's too late with that earthquake.

26. Some really liked Voyager.
In many ways, they were both vastly superior to TNG and TOS.

Not to mention twice abandoning its format.

I liked it somewhat.

32. Two words:
"Spock's Brain." I think it's a bit disingenuous, forty years later, to worry that a forthcoming Trek might be disappointing. The franchise has always shot itself in the foot, its occasional soaring triumphs keeping the legend alive despite the latest epic fail.

Strangely, I'm of the opinion that the series that sucked the least was Enterprise--but perhaps that's partly due to its not having lasted as long as the other series.

8. Every songle buzz I've seen on the interwebs is saying the movie is going to be amazing.
Some people out there are saying it's better than Wrath of Khan. Not that I believe that, because Wrath of Khan was almost perfect.

However, I will still probably see Star Trek at least three times.

13. There was a surprise showing of this in Austin a couple nights ago
Star Trek fans showed up expecting a remastered print of "Wrath of Khan" and ended up watching the new one.

The reviews posted on several sites from this screening have been overwhelmingly positive and excited. I haven't read a single bad thing about it.

11. preliminary reviews
at ain't it cool news have good things to say. the reviewer is a hard core old school star trek fan. and he actually likes a lot of the casting choices. simon pegg as scotty might turn out pretty good, as with eomer, i mean karl urban as bones... who knows.

i'm willing to give it a chance before i pee all over it.

12. I'm looking forward to it.
If it's terrible ... fine. It won't be the first time a Trek movie disappointed me.

From what I've read, it sounds like it's going to be good. The trailer looks great! I know ... a great trailer doesn't mean a great movie, but like you, I'm willing to give it a chance. I really do hope they got it right because I could use some new Trek. :-)

33. The latest trailer includes a snippet of Urban's introducing himself.
He not only has the look; he seems to have the voice, too. These other kids, though, keep me thinking WTF?

I know nothing of Lost, but I guess I'm ready to see an outsider's take on the franchise--and maybe it's better that we don't spend two hours with a Shatner impersonator.

It'll make Enterprise look like it was well-written.

30. in that case
it will fail in your eyes. open minds please. i know next to nothing about the cast, other than karl urban, but i'm willing to give them a chance to step into some established characters and make them their own. so long as the spirit of the originals is alive, i'll be happy.

then again, it could blow up in my face with a suckitude of intergalactic proportions. who knows.

36. A scary hypothesis...
I'm not keen on remakes, and all the pics I've seen just look wrong... but I might see it anyway. During the $5 showing so I won't have wasted too much... if it's good, then I'll watch it at proper showing and make a pass at one or two of the trekkies in the audience...

I've got low expectations for it, but some high hopes...

That J.J. Abrams is directing keeps my hopes up. That it does look like ST: 90210 tempts me to keep my expectations low.
Not having the powers of prognostication so many do, that's the best I can do. :P

but I agree. He's not a bad actor, but he ended up becoming one in those films. It's Lucas' fault, really.

35. I just read some very positive reviews on Aint it Cool News.
Granted, Harry Knowles does have a tendency to shill a bit, but he and other folks who saw a surprise screening said it was a successful re-boot of the franchise. Obviously there were minor quibbles, (that's quibbles not tribbles) about some of the casting decisions, but these kids have some pretty big shoes to fill. I mean, would you really want to have to try and play Spock?
Personally, I think it might be nice to see some Sci-fi that didn't suck or was dystopian.

peace
Noodleboy
