father sued by his 12-year-old daughter regarding a grounding over internet use
A Quebec father who was taken to court by his 12-year-old daughter after he grounded her in June 2008 has lost his appeal.

Quebec Superior Court rejected the Gatineau father's appeal of a lower court ruling that said his punishment was too severe for the wrongs he said his daughter committed.

The father is "flabbergasted," his lawyer Kim Beaudoin told CBC News.

In its ruling, issued Monday, the province's court of appeal declared the girl was caught up in a "very rare" set of circumstances, and her father didn't have sufficient grounds to contest the court's earlier decision. The family's legal wrangling started with a dispute over the girl's internet use.

1. Where did a 12 year old get the money to hire an attorney?
And why is the court injecting itself into a case of punishment that doesn't have to do with physically harming the kid?

*shakes head*

6. court appointed attorney
A Canadian court has lifted a 12-year-old girl’s grounding, overturning her father’s punishment for disobeying his orders to stay off the Internet, his lawyer said Wednesday.

The girl had taken her father to Quebec Superior Court after he refused to allow her to go on a school trip for chatting on websites he tried to block, and then posting “inappropriate” pictures of herself online using a friend’s computer.

The father’s lawyer Kim Beaudoin said the disciplinary measures were for the girl’s “own protection” and is appealing the ruling.

2. wtf?
This article needs more information. I can't think of any valid reason why a child should be able to sue her parents over not having internet access.

:wtf:

4. Probably because some do-goody social worker thinks dad is being abusive

& that kids should have unfettered access to the internet.

Well, at least in the US, CPS is headed that way.

the actual article:
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/2009/04/07/mtl-quebecgirl-sues-dad-0407.html

Essentially, 12 year old broke all the rules, dad took away the internet & permission to go on a school trip, kid got snotty & sued & got to go on the trip anyway.

5. I think that kid
has a rough life ahead unless she learns to respect her parents.
