We have this manual at work that outlines how/when the database should be updated by the user (when to put certain codes in, what codes go where, when what dropdown should be changed to what). The instructions aren't always crystal clear, but they are there in writing, on the printed page, for all to see.
I sent an email to my supervisees explaining one particular database entry that every new person always has trouble with. It's one particular dropdown on the very last screen that only has to be changed in one specific but extremely essential circumstance. The email had one brief descriptive sentence and quoted directly from the manual, which in this case is very clear on when the dropdown entry should be changed.
I have been embroiled in an email discussion with one supervisee involving no less than ten emails about how supervisee thought it was different; was told it was different by someone else; when in this circumstance supervisee thought it should be this way; how if this happened would it be this way; when the planets align just so, shouldn't it be this way...
