Was I scammed? Re: eBay and PayPal.

I tried to use "Buy It Now" to purchase a $4.50 item from eBay, but kept getting an error message saying that my PayPal account wasn't "linked" to my eBay account. "That's odd," thought I, "because I bought something from eBay last week and PayPal worked just fine then."

Then I went to the PayPal site and checked my account but everything looked fine. So I went back to eBay, and went from the eBay site to PayPal, where I jumped through a ton of hoops -- including re-entering my cc number -- just to get my account "linked" correctly. Immediately thereafter I changed my password as well.

I'm feeling kind of uneasy about it now, though. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is it normal? Should I be concerned? I tried to contact eBay about it, but then I've tried to contact them in the past about problems (like getting ripped off by a seller) and getting a helpful answer from them is like hitting the Powerball. So I thought you good folks might have some insight.

Thanks! :hi:

1. Definitely sounds weird.
I'd email PayPal and/or eBay and ask them.

Good luck!

2. Thanks. I did try to contact eBay,

...but all I got was further and further along a very unhelpful "answer tree."

It seems to me that something like this happened a while ago, and I just sort of ignored the problem (didn't buy the thing) and it eventually went back to being "linked correctly," or whatever. I wonder if there isn't maybe a problem with the server at PayPal and it wasn't accessing my account today, or something.

I just didn't like that it happened when I was buying a small item from a foreign country, and the fact that I had to re-enter existing financial information. :wtf:

4. Oh thanks!!!

That was exactly my problem, it sounds like this happens to others on occasion. I guess just a glitch in the software, or the server on one end or the other goes down, or something.

Well, that's a relief. And I never would have found that specific page with my question on it by myself... or else it would have taken all freaking day. I don't know why but I always have the hardest time navigating eBay for anything other than the most basic functions. Very frustrating!

Anyway, thank you sooo much! :pals: :loveya:

5. You're welcome.
I'd still be very weirded out by the fact you had to re-enter credit card info. That part seems super sketchy.

Glad to help. :) :loveya:

6. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago. I contacted ebay and
they sent instruction to get my account "relinked". By that time, however, the bidding had closed on the item I was interested in, so I didn't bother to relink. A few days later I made a purchase and the PayPal went through without a hitch. I think it must have just been a glitch.

7. Thank you for your input.

I am sorry that happened to you, but relieved to know that I'm not the only one and that it does appear to be a glitch rather than a scam.

:hi:
