I will never make a good politician or manager.
Because 1) I can't tell people outrageous bullshit to their faces and keep a straight face
2) I say what I think, not what is corporate PC.
3) I refuse to throw someone else underneath a bus to advance myself
4) I don't kiss butt. Ever.
That is all.

2. You didn't start chatting about the Redskins??
I'm sure your boss would be happy if you had a little "Snyder" talk with him. Being in DC, I'm sure that is a sure-fire way to make it.

:hi:

9. I do all of those things on a regular basis, except #3...

I would NEVER throw someone else under the bus.

So is the life of a salesdog.

Stress is my middle name.

On edit: For example, I once sat
silent while a customer "explained"
to me why a National Health program
couldn't work here, and yeah, he included
the phrase..."The Doctors would just all
leave or refuse to practice..."

I don't argue politics with customers
unless it's clear that they are dropping
their account.

I can't afford to lose the sales....

:(

10. I came to the conclusion
that companies, and I assume there are many, that require or reward people that do those things, are actually a training ground for being mean or bad. What people think is really moving up the corporate ladder is just a slow breaking of empathy or conscious.

I do assume there are companies not like that, or maybe its not like that in the public sector, but I haven't seen any work environments that do not reward maximization of profit regardless of other things. Thinking about it, I really don't blame the bosses, they seemed to always be scared they might lose there jobs, or get in trouble, I think it goes back to the peaceful, and power of a life lived with nothing to lose. But I am rambling a bit.

As far as being a good manager, I found low level, or middle management you can get away with being a good person, its only when you start to be evaluated by upper management that they expect to be treated special. But from what I have seen they are usually not any more special then middle management, they just fit into the right club, same joint history in college, or in social groups.

Add this to your list, refuse to lie, and have no fear of getting in trouble, if something goes wrong, you accept responsibility and fix it, or follow instructions(if given on the issue) without being upset or worried.

Add those to makes it even tougher, and a bit more comical, its like some people don't think your listening if you don't kiss up or fear them, I think it might be insecurity, or people maintaining authority by illusion of competence, and if you don't see them as special then they think there illusion is not working... but it is funny, so there is always that.

11. If anything, I'm too honest for those professions too.
I'm a misanthropic grumpy person in public. If I like a person, I can be nice to them with no problem. If not, I tend to tell them where to shove it. It hold you back in business to not be able to fake it and be oh so nice. I don't really care though. It helped me break free of the nightmarish very low pay (rarely got paid at all) job I had for the past year and a half.
