4. The secret of acting is pretending!

I am reminded of an (apocryphal) story of Sir Lawrence Olivier on the set of Marathon Man. Dustin Hoffman, a Method disciple, reportedly showed up on set having not bathed or slept for three days because his character hadn't bathed or slept for three days.

Sir Lawrence took one look at Dustin and said, "My dear boy. Why don't you try acting?"
