I'm no longer a Catholic so that whole "no meat on Friday's" thing doesn't work for me. If eating meat on Friday sends me to hell at least I'll have a nice meal for my trip...

16. sort of...
I had a cheap-@$$ pork and chicken hot dog.

Does that count?

It's about the only "meat" I ever eat anymore, as it doesn't have a lot of protein in it (I'm on a low-protein diet for medical reasons) - makes you wonder what is in it...or...I think I'd rather not know.

My reason for not eating "real" meat is the protein thing, though, not it being "Good Friday". Being a heathen...don't much care about those religious dietary restrictions.

Damn it feels good to have shucked off the weird Catholic rules of the game.

On a related note, my former coven high priestess was always so proud of being a vegetarian--shouted it to the skies as frequently as she could. Never gave a thought to the pepperoni on her pizza that she ate all the time...I never pointed it out...

BTW, Catholics "give up" eating meat on Fridays. What I don't understand is why they get to eat fish. Fish is meat.

65. There are several theories, I have no idea how important each one was:
1. the Pope wanted to create a market for Italian fishermen

2. meat was a "hot" food and encouraged sexual activity. Anything that came from the water was a "cold" food and did the opposite. BTW, whale meat was OK since whales were considered to be cold.

3. food was running short in late Winter so it was a good time to encourage fasting since a lot of people didn't have much choice in the matter.
