you tube copyright question

I have some old jazz cassettes that were recorded by artists for them to to sell informally at jazz festivals. If there is no copyright notice on the cassette or the liner, can I put tunes on you tube? The one I particularly want to post from is a deceased musician. I know a lot of his old fans from the 1980s would love to find him posted on you tube as a tribute.

In theory, a royalty should be paid to the song owner (ASCAP) and to the owner of the recording. But I doubt anyone will give a shit. The worst they can do is tell you to take it down.

3. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it...

The only people that are worried about it are major labels and big-time copyright holders. And all that can really happen is they'll post a complaint with Youtube who will remove the content (cease and desist). If it gets removed by someone claiming to be the copyright holder, just don't upload it again.

I don't think your pockets are deep enough for anyone to go after you.

Maybe upload 2 or 3, see if anyone bitches, see what the response is from fans, then go from there...
