Is this slogan I found spray painted on some bricks White Supremacist ?
I have a feeling it is, but I could be wrong. There's something about the Power emphasis that tells me it is. In that case, it saddens me a lot to see that kind of crap in my town. On the other hand, lots of Military units say "Freedom through Strength". That's why I'm asking.

3. Could be, but tough call.
There was a political newsletter called that a long time ago, I think. I've also heard a like term used by animal rights...folks. It's even been used in buddhism, but it's "freedom through power over self."

That's actually a pretty kickass picture, though.

4. Thanks,
it's the content I'm worried about. I try to frame every picture well, but if it's something I don't support I'd be pissed if I found out it was racist, or Glenn Beckish, and it would be deleted very quick.

5. I think that what you have there
is something that is going to be interpreted differently by many, depending upon what THEY think it means. You know, like first impression. First time I heard it used, I thought it sounded kind of "white power"-ish even though they didn't mean it that way.

Let's say, it's not a phrase I would use.

7. It's a quote by the political theorist William Withers.
Actually, it's also the title of a book, as well. Withers was a staunch conservative, militarist and federalist, who among other things felt that the North had no right (other than the capacity for force) to compel the South to remain within the Union. Irving Kristol was a student of Withers.

I doubt whoever wrote that has read Withers though, I searched and searched and can't find even a summary of his work online. Withers would not be a favorite of White Supremacists though...though he was a militarist, he advocated a stipulation at the end of WWII that the Allied forces (and Soviets only if need be) permanently partition and annex Germany, in effect destroying even the possibility of existence of Germany as a nation-state ever again. His justification for this basically being a "to the victors go the spoils" sort of thing, a citation also that a permanently non-existent Germany was one which would never rise again to threaten the world. His ideas on Japan were similar and brutal including the permanent destruction of Japan as anything more than a subjugated vassal state.

9. Would you have felt better if it said...
Edited on Sat Apr-11-09 09:46 PM by Pierre.Suave
Freedom through superior firepower?

That said, freedom through power, and freedom through strength, are two very different concepts.

edit again, the difference could be explained as the difference between the views of the repuglicons, and the democrats. Look to Iraq to see how well Freedom through power works...

I don't think there is enough context here to label it as white supremacist, or anything other than some stupid kids (probably) with some spare spray paint.

10. If it had said "freedom through superior firepower" I would have immediately recognized
it as a phrase from one of the units on a military base. The only reason I asked was because of the lack of the "fire" part.

There's lots of hidden white supremacy messages floating around, and I was simply asking if this was one of them.

Good to see you're back, brother.

11. as per your edit
I agree. I took the context of the words, because they were hidden inside a stairwell where someone could write them while being hidden as the words of a coward, and that led me to assume they where the words of a racist.

I'm going to request this thread be locked, thanks for your input.

13. Interesting
I had not considered the location. but I agree with what you say about it and the words in general being put there by a coward.

I remember reading a book written by a pilot in vietnam, he said, "Cruelty is the crutch of the weak, gentleness can only be expected from the strong"

How true those words are.

Edited on Sat Apr-11-09 10:12 PM by DS1
when I was out photographing the rain. I wouldn't have ever gone there and seen this otherwise.

And yes, how true they are.

12. It immediately struck me as freeper, bigoted, anti-Obama.
I knew this shit would happen, and I see it in other ways too.

It's anti-Obama, I'd bet my life on it.

14. Similar conclusion
similar way of thinking.

You thought freeper, I thought white supremacist, they're the same thing in some cases.

17. yes, I think my thoughts were more correctly described as racists, anti-Obama.
Because he's black. You know, the usual bigoted shit.

I'm seeing it all around me here. Even in the lesbian community.

People like that scare me.

16. Tough Call
I don't see any 14/88 type of link. It does seem like a slogan of some sort, but WalMart has slogans too. I don't know. I've seen a ton of WP nonsense before and this doesn't seem to set off any alarms in my head.
