It's a bittersweet day: Angel has a home.
In a couple of hours, we'll be taking Angel to his new home. It's not what I thought would be ideal; i thought he should be an only cat in a quiet household. Turns out he'll have three other cats, two dogs, two children (2.5 yrs and 13 mos.), and a young couple as "mom & dad." But it is better that he be inside. We can't wait anymore -- he can't wait anymore. One never knows what will happen, and he cannot defend himself with no claws.

So it is a bittersweet day here at the Waldorf Cat Haven. We are sad to see him go, but happy he has a home, and happy we have one fewer cat to be responsible for.

Goodbye, Angel.

4. Here's hoping that he does just fine in the new place.
Here's an anecdote for you. A shelter cat was placed in a quiet adult household specifically because he had been a similar one for the three years of his life --both homes were as sole pet of a little old lady. The very good and knowledgeable cat people didn't think he would do well in any other kind of setting.

He was very happy with his new lady but after less than a year he had to be moved again and rather than put him back in the shelter he was given to one of the woman's extended family members who had young, rambunctious kids and a high energy dog. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, but the mother in the family was very much a cat person and knew just how to introduce the cat. After a month the cat was so happy with his new hectic life that he was seeking out the kids to play.

Sometimes cats surprise us and adapt.:hi:

11. I'm glad you decided on these people.
I think it is going to be a good choice. And I agree with Gormy Cuss. You did good by Angel and once he has an indoors I think he will feel safer and more secure and maybe those aspects of his personality that you noted will change with his new environment. All will be well. These folks really sound like they know what they are doing and it's clear that they have a lot of love for animals.

12. I'm so glad he's found a home.
Cats are very adaptable. I'm keeping my son's 2 cats, one came here 3 years ago, but knew us and the household. The other was giving up 2 years ago by his former fiancee, and now she fits right in. She's very shy, and I think she was kept in a bedroom for awhile, but now she's totally part of our family. Angel is a very handsome man!

14. It was rough.
Especially on Mrs. V. She spent a good portion of the day weepy, or just plain crying. I have been crying some too, but she is grieving deeply.

I like them, yes, and they're going to send me pictures. :)

16. If it makes you feel better
I took in a homeless cat that was being "shopped" as an "only cat" by another shelter worker, as he seemed to run and hide from her other cats and I was told he was somewhat antisocial with both animals and people. He adjusted quite well after only a few weeks, in my house that was already home to six other cats.

I'm down to two cats, but he is one of them. He hangs out with his pal all the time.

He's the cat on the top, in the photo.

24. You'd be surprised what strength we can find when we have to.
When we first talked about finding him a home - imperative as soon as we learned he had no claws - I resisted so very hard. And cried and cried.

But I put him in the car on Sunday, drove him to his new home, and left him there.

We can find strength when we need it.
