The Dead's first tour in five years - Audio link to last night's opener in Greensboro NC:
Available to download or to stream in mp3 at: http://www.archive.org/details/thedead2009-04-12

Listening to the opener - "The Music Never Stopped" now and it sure sounds like it didn't! Also, The Dead have given their permission, as usual, for tapers to post audience recordings from the tapers section to the net, for free. Gotta love that. :hippie:

FLAC torrent can be found here: http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=524216

Reviews seem to be quite good - especially considering this was the opening show and that they hadn't toured together in five years. Smoke um if ya got um yall. Enjoy. :smoke:

2. Nice - figures xs4all.nl would have that
they rock.. they run an awesome irc server which i am on all the time.. even have SSL for a secure connection.. very cool, laid back peeps.. they frequently have a pro-marijuana "message of the day" on login..

but no, i hadn't seen that dead in space!.. very cool.. you gonna be able to make it to any shows this year? my sis lives out in cally and went to a DC show with me back in 93 but i doubt she'll go this year.. i'd love to be able to see um play cally - only seen um on east coast stops.. listening to last night's He's Gone now.. quite good :)

5. TOOOOOOOOOOOOR! DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!
Weird but I am old guy but I love the newer music. Nobody my age knows what the hell I am talking about when I talk about music. FUNNY. Of course being a deadhead and all that brings, I am used to that.

(I am guessing tix will be cheap out front. lots of deals on the intenets right now, so they will only get more and more plentiful.

16. Yeah they did! Here's the set list from last night (4-18) in Worcester:
AMAZING show! To think these guys have been playing 40+ years - man, wow............. The show started nearly on time (7:45p) and went almost exactly 4 hours - great vibe inside and outside the DCU Center. There is no doubt that pot has been decriminalized in MA - lots of smokin' inside and outside the building and I didn't see anyone hassled in the least. From what I've read online last night some people are calling last night a highlight of the tour - I feel lucky to have seen living legends still on top of their game.... Jerry would be proud!

Anyhow - set list:

Set 1
Feel Like A Stranger
Going Down The Road
Mountains > Jam > Dupree's Diamond Blues
Althea
Birdsong
Chinacat > Know You Rider

Set 2:
Milestones Jam > Dancing In The Street > Milestones
Terrapin Station
Space > Drums > Space
Days Between
Jam > Bird Song
One More Saturday Night

Donor Rap
Encore - Johnny B. Goode

11. According to their website - dead.net - those were warm up shows not part of the tour
See here --> http://www.dead.net/dead09

And here --> http://www.rollingstone.com/photos/gallery/27130862/the_deads_new_york_tripleheader

Not exactly sure why these aren't part of the tour, but technically they aren't.

12. At the WHITE HOUSE!!!!!
by Mark Silva

We haven't seen any Jerry Garcia ties on President Barack Obama lately, but the Washington Post's "Sleuth'' has a great off-the-schedule sighting:

"The surviving (and formerly feuding) members of the Grateful Dead had a secret impromptu meeting Monday evening with the man they credit with reuniting them: President Obama. The president welcomed all the members of The Dead, who are performing tonight at the Verizon Center in Washington, to the Oval Office just before dinner last night.

"Apparently the band was quite taken with how tidy the president keeps his desk. And how down-to-earth he seemed, according a source who was there. "The president was so gracious. Really, really nice and so welcoming. It hit you: you're in the Oval Office, but it was so normal," the source told the Sleuth.

The visitors: The four surviving members of the Dead - Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann - plus keyboardist Jeff Chimenti (from Weir's Ratdog) and Warren Haynes, joining the Dead on their Spring tour as lead vocalist and guitarist -- the late Garcia's old job.

17. I really want to see The Dead.
The only problem was the LA show the only tickets I could get were behind the stage. Fuck Ticketbastard.

20. Weir and Warren Haynes sang most of the Jerry tunes....
I don't think Lesh did much singing last night, but I didn't have as good a view of him - he hung back on the left side of the stage....

I was also pretty stoned, so don't trust a thing I tell you.
