Women of the lounge, what's the deal with not wearing hosiery?
I've read in a couple places that hosiery is passe unless it's fishnets, sheer black or opaque. So Pecan or beige mist are out?

1. You try pulling on a pair of panty hose.
Most likely, the panty hose crotch ends up twisted up over your left thigh resulting in a hitch-like lurch, sort of like The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and then, a couple of hours in, the rest of the crotch has stretched down to your knees.

And don't even get me started on the kitty litter that you find embedded in the flesh of your calf.

3. lol!
My cat, Bear, used to love watching me put on panty hose. I have since given up that modern day form of torture for women. Except for funerals.... for some reason it seems disrespectful not to wear them with a dress at funerals... I'm not even sure why I feel that way.

5. I'm glad I'm not the only one with the kitty litter problem!
It IS really annoying. Although perhaps not as bad as having a Japanese beetle trapped between one's stocking and one's leg (happened to my mother once).

So those of us who hate hosiery are in good company.

(Not that I ever wear skirts or dresses, anyway!)

wear sandals in the summer, but bare white legs in the winter......not a pretty sight.

I am hoping never to have to wear pantyhose again, for any reason.

8. Would still wear them if not retired;
don't wanna wear shoes without SOMETHING, and don't want legs bare in winter (tho not much of a 'defense' from the chill.) OLD habit. I agree with expressed complaints.

33. They sell lots of wonderful footies these days
I have a drawerful of different size and color peds so shoes don't rub my feet.

I've given up on pantyhose because I can - the work I do doesn't require the same dress code as say, a bank.

10. I have zillions of pairs of black opaque stockings for winter
I do sometimes wear 'nude' pantyhose in the spring though. They don't look bad if you get good quality ones. NOT 'Suntan' or anything that makes me look like I applied tanner to my legs only. My company has a strict dress code. Fishnets would probably get me fired.

11. I wear thigh-high hose, my dear hedgehog!
Very convenient: you put them on, and they STAY on!

And if one of the pair gets a run, you don't have to get rid of both!

You get to wear your OWN panties, you know, the ones you like, that you're comfortable in!

They stay up just fine, too...

It's a winning situation, for sure...

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned them, actually...

Anyone who complains about panty hose never struggled with a garter belt or worse yet (shudder, shudder) a girdle!

16. Nope, no garter belt!
They stay up due to a band of sticky stuff around the top; I'm not sure what it is...

It feels cold and kind of gummy for a few minutes, till your leg warms it up. Then you no longer feel it...

No girdles or garter belts for this babe!

Or they were just badly made...

I've only had them do that when they were really old and worn out...

I got lectured for lack of seriousness in GD once because there was a thread about the the horrors of Hooters, and I said "screw that, they make the girls wear flesh-colored pantyhose - THAT'S horrifying".

I WAS serious!

I gave up wearing hose...my legs are fine enough without nylon covering them. Actually, fine hose usually end up gatherimg around my ankles. I'm very petite, with the hips of a 10 year-old boy, so hose don't fit me well at all.

I've got boobs, but they require a WonderBra, below that, I'm an adolescent boy.

edited for typo

30. I rarely wear panty hose. I find them extremely uncomfortable.
The only times I wear panty hose is job interviews at conservative companies and church. I try to get away with wearing knee highs whenever possible because panty hose make walking difficult due to their tendency to fall down. Most of the employers I worked for had business casual dress codes so I never had to wear them to work. I am in my 40's and have never worked for an employer with a formal dress code.

32. Panty hose are horrid...
Instruments of torture. I wear tights with skirts in winter; they are better made and much more comfortable and can withstand rough skin without shredding unlike panty hose. In summer I keep my legs bare of all socks, knee highs, panty hose, or tights (my legs do tan). I think I have one pair of sheer black hose for funerals but I usually wear pantsuits to those.

I doubt if I would wear fishnets, I don't care for that look. But, to all the men who find women in hose sexy-looking, I wish you would have to put on and wear a pair for just one hour. You'd start singing a different tune.

35. Women taking them off, and men putting them on
Seems the Grass is always greener someplace else.

On a cool autumn day working in the yard. They are just the right thing to have under my jeans. The calves at the end of the day feel better for it as well. And on a hazy hot and humid day, I would like to try trading the long pants and oxfords for a knee length skirt with sadels even if needing the "dreaded pantyhose".

36. They're hot as hell, for one thing.

This past winter, I've discovered the joy of longjohns. I don't have any really warm slacks, so when it's cold enough I wear longjohns under my slacks or jeans.

I love them! Better than panty hose for helping to stay warm.

They don't hold up well on the farm and I didn't need them under jeans. Plus, since I gave up shaving my legs about the same time, any kind of hose would look pretty strange. TMI?

For those who do like them: ]
