1. When you find out, will you let me know?
I'm either going to have to start doing sit-ups or get liposuction.

Since I can't afford liposuction, I guess I know what my answer is. Sigh.

Fashion has brought me full circle:in high school, skirts were so short I didn't dare bend over and now I don't dare reach up!

5. DO NOT wear the Mom jeans.
I am built like a boy, with almost no waist though I am not chubby. The low-rise jeans are a godsend and I will wear them long after they are out of style.

Mom Jeans are EVIL! And, have you seen this, Mom? http://www.hulu.com/watch/61336/saturday-night-live-turlingtons-lower-back-tattoo-remover

It can suck because if you are thicker in the middle and have skinnier legs, then your jeans will look funny! Jeans shopping can be a bitch!

There is a brand of jeans called Seven. I found them at TJ Maxx (hit or miss, this time was a hit) in the petite section. Perfect fit on the inseam! Paid $30 for them, and retail starts around $100.

And they come in short, average and tall and the waistline is where it should be, not down below your navel.

13. As far as I'm concerned...
below my navel IS where the waistband belongs.

I am short-waisted. If I wore jeans at my natural waistline, I'd look like Ed Grimley.

When they go on sale again, I will buy a couple more pairs!

15. When you're almost 6' tall, jeans don't come up to your waist
or down to your feet.

I would feel bad for the shorter folks on this thread, but when jeans shopping at Macy's, I saw 50 "petite" or "short" sized jeans for every "long" or "tall" size out on the floor.

50. Petite clothes are for women 5'4" or under, and they tend to be sized
for 5'4", which means they're usually still too long for those of use who are only 5'1".

22. I'm w/ you
I think low rise is not appropriate for everyone and certainly not in all situations

I saw a young woman... a grad student... at lunch the other day, w/ her thong hanging out. She was simply sitting at the lunch table.

I don't know... but I just don't find it "sexy" to see someone in clothing that looks like it doesn't fit them.

I guess that makes me old-fashioned.

34. I guess I'm wearing mom jeans, too. I wore low rise jeans when I was
in my 20's and 30's, but I just don't feel comfortable in them now, in my 60's. I need some new jeans in the worst way, but I just hate shopping for them. The sizes don't run true from one brand to another and with so many selections in rise, leg style, etc. you have to try on so many of them to find the right fit.

19. In all seriousness a muffin top is not a big deal
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 10:26 AM by Juche
I'm trying to think of how to write this w/o sounding rude, but am not sure how. Since that ship has sailed and some people will think it no matter what, I'll say it anyway. Suffice it to say a woman who has self confidence is sexy, and a woman who likes herself enough to wear something that makes her look attractive, even if she knows other women might look down on her is pretty hot. A muffin top on a woman with healthy self esteem is hotter than a trim waist on a woman who hates her body and is terrified of what other people think.

Besides, men have much more lenient standards for what is acceptable/attractive in women's bodies than women have for themselves and each other. Thats not to say that we find all women attractive all the time (that'd be a lie), but the standards for what is acceptable and attractive are much broader than women seem to realize. And it is sad to watch so many people with decent personalities and accomplishments obsess over such trivialities.

23. I think that's true, based on most guys I've known.
And I love my body (even the little flaws) so it's all good.

Besides, men don't really look at the details. They tend to look at the overall picture more.

Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 11:22 AM by redqueen
Um, you're kind of generalizing there.

And I *highly* doubt most men fit with your theory. I'd say those men are the exception, not the rule.

Looking at what men want to look at / buy... no. Just no.

25. Like I said, we aren't perfect
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 11:35 AM by Juche
What I'm trying to say is that the attitude that looks are the most important thing (more important than compassion, charity work, intelligence, kindness, etc), and that the standards of beauty are only obtainable by 5% of women are false because it seems to me that those are common attitudes nowadays. I could lie and say everyone is attractive and nobody is unattractive, but that'd be transparent. What I can say comfortably is that tons of women of all shapes and sizes end up finding mates who are attracted to them, and I don't think most guys will actually hold women to the same draconian standards the hold themselves to. And I can say that after you get to know someone and either become endeared or disgusted by their personality, their attractiveness can either go straight into the toilet or improve dramatically.

But I don't want to come across as saying that appearance means nothing, because it does. What I am trying to say is that it is not the only important thing about a person, and that the standards are looser than people think.

47. One of my best girlfriends
has a giant muffin top. I don't know that it even classifies as a "muffin top" even, because it's just really her belly. And it's not small, either.

But she is without a doubt the sexiest, hottest chick I have ever known. She oozes it from her pores. Honestly, walking into anywhere with her never fails to amaze me because people stop and STARE at her. And they are NOT looking at her muffin top lol

She has redefined the way I think of my own mama muffin. But I don't think that a few years ago, I would have read your words in the same way I do now, knowing her. But I couldn't agree with you more!

31. Try Lee jeans 'just below the waist' cut.
They aren't the very low cut jeans that show too much, these really just sit right below your waist and don't give a muffin-top look. I've found them to be comfortable. I'm a bit chubby and prefer jeans at the waist or just below. I'm also long-waisted and if I wore those jeans cut around the belly button it would look like my pants were falling off.

52. Showing your thong at any age is slutty. It's just as easy to throw on a pair of jeans
that fit with a colorful, fitted top and sweater or jacket as it is to put on baggy sweats and t-shirts.
The difference is taking some time to do some shopping to have some options in the closet.

A lot of people are hiding behind sloppy clothes. It does a world of good for confidence and
self esteem to dress nicely. It can be done without a lot of money--it just takes some effort.
