Favorite movie endings

Mine is the end of La Dolce Vita, when Marcello looks across the water to see the image of his lost innocence. After the parties and debauchery, after the sea monster, he comes face to face with what he once was. And of course the girl does not understand or hear a word he says. Beautiful.

2. Well it CERTAINLY isn't the one from "Sideways"
That ending sucked - and it wasn't really a comedy either - the DVD jacket was totally fucked on that one!

33. It was a comedy in the classic sense that it wasn't a tragedy.
It wasn't "A Fish Called Wanda," though. :)

I liked the ending. It was one of the first ones I thought of when I read the OP.

4. Chazz Palmienteri sees "Quartet - Skokie Illinois" - drops his
coffee cup which, we see, says "Kobayashi" on the bottom as it breaks, and Kevin Spacey gets into the car with Pete Postlethwaite and they drive off, as Chazz runs out of the building and looks wildly around for Keyser Soze.

The movie has subtitles, obviously, but in this case, the images speak for themselves.

Black Rabbit: You needn't worry about them. They'll be all right, and thousands like them. If you come along now, I'll show you what I mean...

I cried like a baby during that part in the book. Especially when it says, "It seemed to Hazel that he would not be needing his body any more, so he left it lying on the edge of the ditch..."

When my first pet rabbit died, I wrote a poem that began with one of my favorite quotes from WD: "My friend stopped running today."

101. The book ending is quite a bit more moving...
The book ending is quite a bit more moving. But I imagine most books are more moving that their film counterparts.

Sigh. I do love that book, but should you ever get the opportunity to watch the film, please do so-- the animation is wonderful, and although the voice-over acting leaves room for improvement, as a whole the film stays very, very true to the emotional level of the book itself.

And I promise, even though they took a few creative liberties with the final scenes about Hazel-Ra, you'll still cry as the emotional impact is the same, and his last minutes are still quite poignant and touching.

Hi,
This is what came into my mind first. I am not sure if it was actually the very last scene, but I am thinking it was. Where he whispers into her ear and you can't hear what he is saying. I liked the open-end like that.

Interesting thread, thanks!

66. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978 remake)
A shipload of pods is sailing off to another port.

Final score: Pods 1, Humans 0.

The original (1956) movie was a classic, except for the tacked-on happy ending.

Kevin McCarthy starred in the original movie and had a small part in the remake.

I did not see that coming, despite all the little hints throughout the movie. I loved it.

85. A few
Dead Poet's Society -Where all the students stood on their desks as Mr. Keating left the room for the final time
Ghost: When Sam says goodbye to Molly and Oda Mae and goes into Heaven
Cool Runnings: The final scenes with the Jamaican bobsled team being cheered as they carry their sled to the finishing line
The ending to the Sixth Sense
The ending to Amazing Grace
The final scenes of Fahrenheit 9/11. Michael Moore's commentary at the end was very powerful and spot on and that Dumbya quote was just priceless

I'm sure there are others but those are the ones that come to mind immediately

87. The Graduate
Ben (Dustin Hoffman) hollering "Elaine"
Elaine (Katherine Ross) finally hollering back "Ben".
Her mother (anne Bancroft) saying "It's too late"
Elaine: "Not for me"
Mother, father, and groom all mouthing "Son of a Bitch"
Ben blocking the door from opening with the cross, and Elaine and Ben sitting in the bus at the very end, people on the bus looking dumbfounded, Elaine and Ben looking happy, then enigmatic.

102. "Lone Star"

Perfect ending line, if you know that "Remember The Alamo!" has been a Texas rallying cry since 1836 or so. Great flick.....
