There are those who call me Juror #1...
It's my second day as a juror on an assault case (which, for legal reasons, is all I'm going to say about it). I get a kick out of doing my civic duty and I'm enjoying the process. It's fun, but it'll likely all be over by Monday.

Now I can check "served on a jury" off my list of things that everyone should do at least once.

1. I've been called many times but never impaneled.
I'd love to serve on a civil case -- not so sure about criminal but I suppose that I'd manage.

4. I was made a the foreman the first time I was selected.
It was a civil case. Some guy threw another guy off the front steps. The guy that got tossed had fractured ribs, time off work, blah, blah. We gave him 60K.

6. One of my fellow jurors was on a civil trial jury a few years back.
He said it went on for weeks and weeks and that the jury spent more time in the jurors' lounge than in the courtroom.

11. It can happen.

I told them that I only get paid for 10 days, so if it's more than that, don't pick me. My case went around 6 days, but 1 or 2 of them were very short.

BTW, a few months later the judge from the case was arrested for doing something with the mob.

2. You can check off "served in jail" if you keep talking about it.
:D

3. My b/f served.
He did a domestic abuse case. It lasted quite a few weeks. The dude was found not guilty. It was a strange case.

:hi:

8. I did a sexual assault case a couple years back
I was surprised how NOT like tv it was. Quick and drama free.

During deliberations I had to explain to my fellow jurors that no means no. All men know this, and if we choose to grope away, then choose not to testify on our own behalf (while the victim has a believable story), we go to jail. Period.

It took me about two minutes to change the mind of about half the jurors. Kinda scary really.

9. I served as an alternate juror once
Alternate jurors get to do everything the other jurors do except deciding the verdict. They can't even sit in on the deliberations, so they have to sit around in another room doing nothing because they can't leave.

10. Recently I was picked one of three alternate jurors
Then the trial went into a very long recess, and when we got back two of the primary jurors and one of the alternates were excused. Ultimately I wound up serving as the foreperson.

On the charge of murder in the first degree: Not Guilty.
On the charge of murder in the third degree: Not Guilty.
On the charge of criminal conpsiracy: Guilty!

12. Three times I've purposely said things to get excused. It's worked, too.
Not for the usual reasons most people do.

I can be extremely indecisive. It is a big fear I have to one day be selected and not be able to decide on a verdict. Just figure it's easier for all involved if I get out of it!

13. Unless it's Federal Jury Duty
You will want knitting needles by the end of a trial. To gouge out your eyes.
