It's a Full Moon and My Due Date....
So will I still be pregnant tomorrow? ;-)

These have been a long 40 weeks and I'm ready to be a mom! Only BabyDem seems to prefer the safety and warmth of life in utero to the harsh realities of life in America under the Bush* administration....

But seriously, if anyone wants to share old wives' tales or anecdotes about going into labor during a full moon, or what home "remedies" they used to bring on labor, it might cheer me up today as I continue to wait oh-so-patiently....

2. The old "let's ride her over the train tracks" ploy....some swear by it.
As my old doctor said about my 2 week over-due baby: the apple knows when to fall from the tree. If I could have moved fast enough, I would have done him bodily harm. :) Best wishes on your babino's arrival; maybe that full moon will help kick things into gear. :)

32. Me too!
2 in fact...with the second the Dr. HAD to give me the option of a c-section. I was like "Are you MAD! Hmmmm, lemme see, water breaking, going into labor for who knows how long, pushing that thing out...or just get all fuzzy, wake up and have a beautiful new baby...Tough choice." Never went into labor, but I have a friend who SWEARS cod-liver oil worked for her, tho I suspect she was hurling her guts out and her water broke. Anyway, best of luck to you! :D :hi:

6. thanks, yes, first one, and everyone says first babies are late
but the thought of another 10-14 days is too much!

Of course, on the converse side, if I'm still pregnant on 8/22, it will be easier to attend the local Bush protests when he's in Seattle than if I've just delivered! Hmmm, maybe a good anti-Bush protest is what I need to bring on labor....

36. First Babies Late?
I thought 6-7 months was traditional for first babies?

Mrs. Hurricane and I* have had 3 children, all were early by 2-3 weeks. Looking back, it was almost fun with #1 and #3, with Mrs. Hurricane argueing that she was NOT in labor. If I hadn't insisted, we would have had #1 at home.

*No, I didn't do anything after the first 10 minutes of the pregnancy, I know.

Nothing like some major pissing off vibes to work that plug out.

I lost my plug while at a Thanksgiving dinner with two screaming toddlers... guess they annoyed my baby out of me!!

Good luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. My first baby was induced 5 days after EDD, and with my second, I actually went into labor on my EDD, she just didn't come out for 2 days.

12. Eggplant parmigiana.
Evidently there is a restaurant in Chicago that guarantees you will go into labor after you eat their eggplant parmigiana. Have no idea what is in it but maybe it can get things going.

Personally, I would still be carrying my 22-year-old if I hadn't gotten some help from the hospital. When I was two weeks late I had not dilated or effaced a whit so they gave me a Pitocin challenge and it got things going. Second one was late too but they broke the water and got him out. Was all prepared to have a section with #3 on April 30. April 15 worked long and hard on taxes, got them done, worked until the last minute to get time on my timesheet for the upcoming paycheck, then was going to take two weeks off to clean my house (getting ready for my mother's visit and nesting to boot) but got up the morning of April 16, water broke and we made a rush trip to the hospital - hairy legs, unbrushed teeth, dirty body and sitting on bath towels trying to keep the car from getting skanky. So much for being prepared.

As far as bringing labor on - nothing worked. When I was a week late I played nine games of tennis (even falling on the court going after a long shot), stood under a full moon, watched a falling barometer, took rides over bumpy roads and railroad tracks, had sex and ate enough spicy food to give me an ulcer, but all to no avail. So I suggest having a dirty house and nasty body and it should happen. That was the only one that worked for me.

14. Well,
Try taking a walk, that might speed things along.

I used to work in a hospital, and full moons definitely made a difference in the numbers of babies being born. We'd get in a huge rush, with three or four babies (small hospital) and sure enough, it would be a full moon.

Also, about September or October there would be a HUGE baby boom. We'd look back on the calendar and sure enough, 9 months earlier we had some extremely cold weather or a snow storm!

Those were the days. :-) Babies are so neat!!

23. I was a week late with my 2nd child...
I went the midwife route this time, and was so much happier and more relaxed than with my first pregnancy. They had to be very careful, though, so they were going to have me get another ultrasound to make sure everything was still ok.

I told my midwife that there were a lot of things I'd rather spend $400 on than another ultrasound, when I knew deep down that the baby was fine and I was fine. So she suggested that I spend the rest of the day climbing stairs as much as possible, walking, light housework, etc...then have a nice warm shower and a glass of beer.

I followed her advice to the letter...I felt a little funny about the beer; but I figured a half glass of Guinness ought to be ok. Sure enough, the little guy decided to make his grand entrance the next day. Labor was a piece of cake.

I hope yours is too! Happy baby! :-)

25. Raspberry tea.
The real kind, not raspberry flavored stuff. Available in health food stores or something. Brew some and drink it. So I was told when my first one was two weeks late. I've since heard that intense nipple stimulation also works. Seriously, I've heard that. Didn't try it, but heard it. Good luck, take the pitocin, take the epidural, take the pain pills afterwards, and enjoy it all! Keep us posted so we can welcome baby SeattleDem.

My son was born at 9:30 am ...That was seven years ago .

34. Try to keep in mind
that the due date isn't the date by which the baby is guaranteed to arrive, but the midpoint, plus or minus three weeks, of when a baby will probably show up, given the date of LMP.

As big and uncomfortable and impatient as you feel now, cherish these last few days of just you and your husband. You are actually getting more sleep now that you will for the next several years, believe it or not. And no diapers to change, just think of it!

Good luck, best wishes, and hope to see the photos of baby real soon.

35. salin's family is not much of a predictor:
salin's older sister nearly a month late.

salin's brother came on the day the norwegian doctor predicted, but not the one the US doctor predicted (he was conceived and his first several in utero months were in Norway).

salin, always the impatient one, came on the date predicted - one month (to that date) early.

Have known folks who do a lot of walking towards the end. Guess its supposed to jostle little babydem?

40. Ive had several
and I read once that nipple stimulation can get you into labor. It is the same idea that someone here posted about having an orgasm. It stimulates the hormone needed to make that uterus start contracting.
I tried with my fingers, rolling and pulling each nipple about five-seven minutes on each side at about midnight while reading a book, lol. Even if it doesnt work, it is still good to toughen the nipples if you have decided to breast feed.

I went to sleep with heavier than usual contractions, and had the baby the next morning.

With my very first one, I tried castor oil:puke:, and it worked. But not on the second child.

Something in the chemical makeup of sperm, plus an orgasm on your part, is supposed to trigger labor. My friends has two children and that's how she induced labor both times.

So go someplace and kiss a new mom.
