Fellow snake-haters: check in, here!
Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 08:05 PM by brentspeak
If you agree with me that snakes (all snakes) are scary :scared: creatures, and that people who actually touch them are el loco -- and are probably a part of some snake-conspiracy -- raise your hands!

:scared:

1. they terrify me to my very soul
i love nature, grew up in the woods, have no problems with spiders or bugs or anything else. Except snakes. If I see one from 20 feet away, Im ... OK ... There've been times when I almost stepped on them and I about had a heart attack. One time I found a copperhead slithering in my hallway *shudder* I finally got the nerve to catch it and get it out of the house so I went and got a pillowcase and a broom. Came back and it was gone. I was relieved at first, then horrified. WHERE THE F*** did that poisonous snake just go!?

3. Yep, me too.
My team leader has a big one in his room and occasionally walked around the hallway with it draped around his neck. Creeps me out! He is not allowed in my room with it. We used to have a teacher who would bring his "cute little snakes" (as he called them) into my room to show me even though he knew I was grossed out. I had to ask the principal to have a chat with him about it. No more problems with that.

So yeah, I'm a snake-phobe.

5. Sorry - snakes are cool. I touched one just a few days ago (sleepy king snake
wouldn't get off the trail).

Of course, any snake that was ~ equal to me in mass would creep me right the fuck out; my friendliness applies only the the small and non-venomous...

7. uneducated period
Anyone that despises an animal because of its looks and solely just on looks is in my opinion, uneducated on the particular animal. You say their "creepy" is that all you know im sorry but from a person who loves all animals and owns 60 reptiles in my collection i have a saying for people like you

"In the end we conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are Taught"

Snakes are living animals just like anything else, to hate an animal for ridiculous reasons as "they have no legs" or their slimy which is not even true, is just so very sad in my opinion.

13. I do agree, but I also know that some things just creep people out.
Roaches are that for me. I always catch and release any bug in my house. Spiders and all, BUT if I see a roach in my house, I freak out. I run and scream like a fool. And they must GET OUT and preferably die. They creep me out that bad.

I think with all the knowledge in the world about snakes, many would still be freaked out by them. My husband doesn't kill any animal but a snake on rare occasion. He is in landscaping and comes across them daily. If it is a venomous snake (copperhead, rattlesnake, water moccasin) it gets killed immediately. Usually with the shovel in his hands.

But I love snakes. I think they are pretty cool creatures.

18. no worries
you're not alone! in fact, the fear of snakes is apparently primordial.

"..Recent studies conducted have theorised that humans may have an innate reaction to snakes, which was vital for the survival of humankind as it allowed such dangerous threats to be identified immediately".

I've always thought as much. I guess I'm a dipshit because I haven't crossed that barrier. Oh, well.

11. No. I love snakes. I am a bit hesitant about them when I sneak up on
one, but I am very fascinated by them and get a little excited when I come across one.

12. Well, they don't bother me since one of my brothers kept about ten of them
at a time in our basement in Philly..my Mom fucking hated them and hated having them out of their aquariums. My brother would put his constrictor around me when his friends were over...thought it was the cool thing to do. My Mom walked in from work one night, found us in the living room and saw the snake around my neck...talk about a freak-out...I came close to having one less sibling that night.

20. You shouldn't admit this publicly. If the CIA ever catches you,
they'll put you in a room full of snakes.

Me, I'm not afraid of anything...as far as you know. :)

22. That's O.K....
...because they wouldn't be indicted. So all's fair in torture and war, especially when you have the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. Who's gonna argue?
