Most know that Socrates died by being sentenced by the state. And although he could have escaped he stayed for the following reasons.

Public opinion is not important to the decision; the manys ignorance does not allow them to have true choice, and therefore their opinions are of no value to the one who strives after the truth and the good. (disagree)

The essential concern is whether to escape would be just.

One should never do injustice; doing evil to humans/human evil leads to injustice.

Men, especially those so old as Socrates, should not fear death

The first one I take issue with, because it gives up on the task of spreading learning, to simply say the public does not matter, you begin to create a sub group that you claim can make the decision.

This is a huge flaw, because although public opinion will not be as smart as a small group that worked its way to power, it is also said by him, that those that acquire power are more likely to be greedy, or selfish. So allowing decisions to be made by the group in power, and those they choose to surround themselves with, mostly their own group, you create a worse outcome then the less intelligent ideas of the 'many'.

You also give up on the task of teaching, because for the 'few' to make all the decisions you have to make the 'many' dumber, and lie to them. So again his comment leads to memory erasure(book burning by keeping peoples attention short or fixed on sensation) and it leads to actually hurting forms of education for peoples children not in the group. When that is done, a wealth of potential people are not given the chance to achieve, since they are oppressed since they are grouped with those that have opinions that do not matter.

It is true that populations make worse decisions, but this is the responsibility of the leaders to change by educating them. Which leaders today try and explain things, which try to hide them? I think you can see this argument played out today in American politics.

13. Well I actually googled it just now
And what it is reported he said, according to google is pretty funny, but Greek myths are often funny. You could tie it into lots of things.

But that's how interpretation of symbols is, lots of flipping of this or that and the meaning changes completely.

Like the doctor, many interesting translations of what a doctor is. I sort of like parts of speech in Patch Adams. And find the choice by Doctor Who interesting, but I also like songs like this, that dis'es a doctor :) And the doctor in that song does not seem to be correct anyway.

I have no real opinion on the medicine person spoken of by Socrates. But I do like the ideas of spiritual healing as told in many faiths.

As far as the song goes, I have much love, and have not lost any, but its a good song. Although I think many are sad when they think on it, and it would be sad to lose love.

So anyway, a few nice icons could always be a good thing :)

10. 'Fluctuations'

I guess we all need a few laughs in this time of financial turmoil.

I was at my bank today and was standing in line.
Just one lady was in front of me, an Asian lady who was trying to exchange yen for dollars.

It was obvious she was a little irritated.
She asked the teller, 'Why it change? Yesterday, I get two hunat dolla of yen. Today I only get hunat eighty? Why it change?'

The teller shrugged his shoulders and said, 'Fluctuations'

The Asian lady says, 'Fluc you white people too!'
