does diet coke work like coke on rust?
i'm trying to get some bolts off, and they are extremely rusted and corroded. all i have is diet coke, and i'm wondering (hoping - because i already have them steeping in a couple of cans of diet) that will work like coke does.

anyone know?

2. Check the ingredients for phosphoric acid - should be the same amount
as in real coke. It gives you that little "bite" on the tongue. In greater concentrations, it's used to clean rust off steel beams that have been stored outdoors before they are painted.

5. Why not just use WD-40.
Works a lot faster.

7. WD-40, my other fix-all, alas, did not work
i'm a wd-40 or duct tape kinda home repair type. one of the two generally works.

this is a special case because neither suited.

we will now resort to hack-saw, dremel cutter (#420, i think) or bolt cutters.
