5 Sunday questions.
1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.

4) Do you like to shop?

5) How big is your Ignore list?

My answers:

1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.

I used to be very involved with special needs children, and especially the Special Olympics.

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?

Yes, but she doesn't bother me anymore. Not for a long time now. But we have a colorful history.

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.

No, but I email with a few gems.

4) Do you like to shop?

I absolutely hate shopping. I drop off my mother, and pick her up when she's done.

5) How big is your Ignore list?

I don't have an Ignore list. Maybe for a day or two to clear out half a page when someone goes on a tirade. But nothing serious or permanent. I don't spend a lot of time in the GD's.

5. Okie dokie!
1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.
My greatest fear is not of dying, but of being a burden to friends/family while I'm in the process of dying. I treasure my independence and my ability to be an asset rather than a burden.

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?
Yes. I was married to one for 11 years.

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.
That's a tricky question. I knew my both my husband (CMW) and DUer zone before DU existed, and drexel dave and I have been friends since about 1996. Good experiences, all.

4) Do you like to shop?
I'd rather catch diptheria, frankly.

5) How big is your Ignore list?
I never had an ignore list until recently; I have now one person on ignore and probably will take this person off of ignore now that the thread in which this person showed his/her ass in a major, hurtful way has slipped into the archives.

8. 5 Sunday answers
1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know. I was captain of my high school quiz bowl team, my parents made me do it. I hated it. I was also on my dorm's all-star trivia team which was more fun.

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist? I work in radio and with the arts so, yes. My SO also has narcissistic tendencies but is not a full-blown narcissist.

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences. I have met several. My sister is a DUer and two former DUers are very close friends. All of my experiences have been pleasant to great.

4) Do you like to shop? Only on vacation. Otherwise, I'm not much of a shopper and I would never plan a vacation AROUND shopping but I know a lot of people who do.

5) How big is your Ignore list? My real-life Ignore list is fairly extensive but I don't have anyone on Ignore on DU; I don't think I know anyone here well enough to hate them that much and vice versa.

20. And the answers are:
1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.

I have two beautiful daughters that make me laugh EVERY DAY.

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?

I have known only two TRUE narcissists in my life. One
I worked for, and one I currently work with. I steer
as clear of him as I can. I know several selfish people,
but they are not true narcissists.

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.

Mrs. Grumpy was my neighbor and we joined DU around the same
time, right after 9/11...she was the best friend anyone could
ask for.Although she is currently best-friending someone in another
state, I'm happy that she escaped.
I see SharonRB anytime something happens in Michigan,
and consider her (and her smart-mouthed husband) great
democrats and great friends.

4) Do you like to shop?

I despise shopping. If I die and find myself
at a WalMart, I will know that I landed in hell.

5) How big is your Ignore list?

I have only one person on ignore.
Never felt like ignoring anyone in
my ENTIRE time here, but this person
irks me, and I find DU a more pleasant
place without her.

30. A character from the series "Six Feet Under" remarkably played by Jeremy Sisto.
He was in a book about his sister's childhood.

I really miss that show....

Brenda Chenowith

Brenda Chenowith (1969–2051), played by Rachel Griffiths, is Nate's wife (formerly his long-time girlfriend). As a child, she was under the scrutiny of Dr Gareth Feinberg and various psychologists who documented her behavior in a book called Charlotte Light and Dark. Being a genius, however, she would study the symptoms of diseases and feign them, to make Charlotte Light and Dark completely inaccurate. Her parents are wealthy psychiatrists while her brother (Billy) is a successful photographer, struggling with bipolar disorder. Brenda spent much of her life care-taking for Billy and has struggled to build her own life outside of Billy's illness. Billy has a strong fixation on Brenda's life and their relationship at times bordered on incest. Brenda's first real love was Trevor, with whom she planned on going to Yale until she chose to stay home after Billy attempted suicide.

Brenda meets Nate Fisher at an airport and they have sex shortly after. The two begin a relationship which is often interrupted by her brother Billy who continues to worm his way into his sister's life. Nate breaks up with Brenda after her sexual addiction gets out of hand. Brenda moves away from Los Angeles and seeks out therapy. She arrives back in L.A. after her father is diagnosed with cancer. She then begins a relationship with a neighbor, Joe, a kind French Horn player who likes to be dominated in bed. After Joe catches Brenda making out with Nate, he ends the relationship and moves out of the house they bought. Brenda gets back together with Nate by whom she becomes pregnant. On the night before their wedding, Brenda suffers a miscarriage which casts a dark pall on her wedding day. Brenda becomes pregnant again and begins an internship as a cognitive therapist. About this time, Nate begins spending a lot of time with Maggie, his stepsister and becomes interested in her Quaker religion. Nate insists that Brenda attend a meeting of Friends ( A Quaker service). Wanting to save her marriage, she complies, only to show up to a meeting and not know that at that moment, Nate and Maggie are at her apartment, having sex. Nate suffers a hemorrhage from his AVM and is rushed to the hospital. After appearing as though he is recovering, he breaks up with Brenda, apparently with thoughts of beginning a relationship with Maggie. He dies before this can happen, having never left the hospital. Six weeks later Brenda delivers a premature baby girl named Willa, who eventually becomes healthy enough to go home after spending weeks in the hospital. Years later, Brenda is remarried to a man named Daniel Nathanson, and has a third child, Forrest Nathanson. She dies in 2051 at the age of 82 of natural causes (the audio commentary on the DVD suggests that Billy, still complaining about his failed relationship with Claire, bores Brenda to death).

< Billy Chenowith[br />
Billy Chenowith, played by Jeremy Sisto, is Brenda's younger brother, who is a bipolar artist and often has episodes of violent, psychotic behaviour. He has been prescribed psychiatric medication to control his disorder, but frequently causes problems by failing to take them as needed. Billy's episodes have proved chronic, causing critical events in the life of his family. In one example, he allegedly burnt down a section of the family home in 1986. Due to another incident, in which he carves a tattoo out of his back with a box cutter and attempts to do the same to his sister, his family has him committed. (The tattoos were of their favorite fictional characters: Nathaniel and Isabel – there was speculation that the two siblings were intimately involved during their childhood, until the episode "Static" showed they hadn't been.) Billy is also an alumnus and teacher at LAC-Arts, where Claire Fisher attends college until late 2004. Billy first meets Claire in 2001 at Brenda's, and they strike up a good friendship until Billy ends it. After being institutionalized, the only person he can talk to is Claire. After he is released he rekindles the relationship, and the two begin dating two years later, briefly living together. After some taunting by old acquaintances that he's not the guy he used to be, and finding himself lacking artistic inspiration, Billy again ceases taking his medication. Soon after, Claire realizes this and breaks it off with him for her own safety. Billy goes back on his medication and asks Claire to forgive him, but she refuses. Billy later helps his sister after Nate dies, until she asks him to leave. However, the two remain close, and Billy is present when Brenda finally passes away.

29. More answers
1. At about age 5 I woke up deaf in one ear one day. I was the first case of that happening to a young child. I was initially diagnosed with a fatal kidney problem that would see me live to age 18 if I were lucky. I was diagnosed with that because I began having blood in my urine at the same time and this was the only thing they could think it was because they assumed the two were related. During exploratory surgery they discovered the cause of the blood which was an extra valve I grew - they went ahead and removed the valve and the bleeding stopped. They theorize that I went deaf because of a nerve eating virus. Many years later (1997)I met the second sudden nerve deafness case - a woman about my age from Dorchester - by chance. Her deafness happened about a year after mine so they sent her to my doctors. They think that her loss is related to her father's exposure to Agent Orange before her birth. Weird.

When I was about 13 I developed a mole on my abdomen that began to grow in size rapidly and bleed profusely. I was brought to a doctor who was cold and almost mean. When he took a look at the mole he lit up like a xmas tree and asked if he could bring some students and other doctors into look at me. I said yes for some reason and doctors oohed and ahhed and poked and prodded me. I was the first ever case of a lavender vascular tumor.

I just happened to be one of the lucky kids pulled from class one day to be in a photograph of a bunch of kids running into a school. I have a copy of the book cover somewhere. The only reason I do have that copy is that a friend of the family's kid was in college a year(s) later and got the book for class and amazingly, recognized me.

2. She says I'm not too. :)

3. A bigot who used to post here for years.

4. n/a

5. I don't fuck around. I also have a short leash here so just mass ignoring helps me stay out of trouble.

2) Oh, you're not a narcissist. Maybe an asshole at times that I've not seen. Hell, I am too, when pushed.

3) Can't comment. I don't know this person

4) I hate shopping.

5) I'm lucky that way. I get them to Ignore me instead of me Ignoring them.

As such everything sounds like it's coming from the right. I don't wear a hearing aid as it wouldn't help - I have no nerve.

Thanks for reading it. Feel free to share or click on the ads. :D

I updated it yesterday btw.

1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.

Something that is not widely known about me on here is that I have held public office as a Republican appointee. They know I am a Dem (and so does the rest of the County) but they appointed me to the office anyway.

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?

Yes, in the workplace, and BECAUSE I stood up publicly about this guy's abuse of women in the workplace question #1 happened.

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.

Yes, several of them. Whenever I plan to travel I ask if anyone from there wants to meet up. I have NEVER met a DUer that I didn't enjoy!

4) Do you like to shop?

Rectal surgery without anesthetic rates higher on my fun scale.

5) How big is your Ignore list?

Nobody is on my "Ignore" list. I tried to use that feature for the first time in this last Primary and I realized I cannot use it successfully. It pisses me off more to not be able to see what they are saying than anything they can say. "Hide Thread" works much better for me.

28. #4 God damm, I hate shopping. And I've also endured rectal surgery, which was not much pleasant.
I caught some virus once that caused internal bleeding. I was so bent over in pain I couldn't drive, and went to the hospital by ambulance.

They admitted me for a couple days, and I had to have a colonoscopy. Ever have an elephant snout stuck up your ass? Gawd, I couldn't even walk for a day. And the pillows and blankets are all covered with plastic, which makes you sweat to death.

Not pretty, and I'd rather die at home. On the couch.

There are some things in life that we ALL would be happier skipping. What you describe sounds like one of those. I am SO sorry you had to endure that and I really feel like "an ass" for making any sort of joke about it.

You should know, however, that one of the worst things I have endured thus far as a parent, was taking my 11 year old daughter and five of her gal pals on a three hour mall crawl one Saturday as part of a sleep over. I am very serious when I say it was almost a Scarlett O'Hara moment with me shaking my fist at the sky screaming in my BEST Southern drawl, "As Gawd is my witness, I'll NEVAH do this again!!!"

Hell holds little fear for me after that particular weekend. I was left a changed woman.

1. I used to sing and play bass for a band briefly called "The Fucking Shits".

2. I believe I have worked with a few of them. I try to avoid tham as much as possible.

3. No. but I sometimes get these wierd messages......

4. I love it. I buy junk and sell collectables on eBay. Have been doing it for years, just for fun and a little spending money to buy my guns.

5. At the moment, no one on my ignore list. The highest number I have ever had on it was 2 people. I just manage to ignore them without the ignore list. It was no one on the lounge.

God, I feel so much better now.....

5) How big is your Ignore list?

A few..mostly anti-vaxxers who tried to provoke me by calling me nasty names and throwing nasty accusations at me. I don't need to see or read that shit.

1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.

I collect rocks.

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?

Every time I look in the mirror. :P Just kidding.

Yes, I have dealt with one for the last 15 months of that myspace "job" I had. By "job," I mean I did someone else's job for nothing for 15 months. It's so nice to have my hard drive space and my life back now. I made a grand total of $250 at that "job" over 15 months. Yeah, I'm so greedy, aren't I?

A couple weeks ago, I pulled out the nukes, made a huge sacrifice, and did what I had to do to get rid of a narcissistic, homeless, deranged, backstabbing, lying, abusive male prostitute who thinks he is God.

Goodbye, Courtney.
Goodbye, JT, you backstabbing, lying bastard. Say you could have sued her yourself but would only have gotten $30 or $40 grand, huh? This way you can split the money and get way more, huh? Money's not everything, you lying, backstabbing son of a bitch. Your uppance will come and she who laughs last, will laugh LOUDEST. I will be biding my time and enjoying having my privacy, my solitude, my sanity, my fucking goddamn sleep, my fucking goddamn time and my safety back.

I'm less bitter about it this week than I was last week. Can ya tell?

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.

No, I'd like to meet some one day maybe, if I can talk them into it. :P

4) Do you like to shop?
The only thing I enjoy shopping for is gardening/landscaping stuff (Think seeds, flowers, plants, garden ponds, gnomes, trashy yard accessories and veggies) and guitar stuff.

5) How big is your Ignore list?

1-I sorta like sappy "chick flicks". If word of this ever gets out, it could be troublesome.
2-Yes, but these things happen. I dealt with it and gave her the boot.
3-Yes I have. An individual who regularly posts in our little Iowa forum was at a protest against cheney on a real hot summer day. We started talking and found out we both were crazy DUers. And in fact, I met another Iowan at a Feingold event just by wandering around and being nosy, er, curious. Fine men. DUers. So they are the best.
4- Hell no. Go in, get what's needed, and get out.
5-One person on my ignore list unless someone else upsets me. Then it will grow.

Oh yeah. Worked for him for two years. The clinical definition of a narcissist. Plus he was a competitive body builder on steroids. Not fun.

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.
Yes, just one. Extremely nice person.

4) Do you like to shop?
Depends on the category. Gadgets - yes, clothes and food - no.

5) How big is your Ignore list?
I have never felt compelled to ignore someone. If someone's being an asshat, I actually like to read their posts to understand where they're coming from. Very few are that way all the time, and when they're posting reasonably it's cool, I just want to know what the warning signs are if they're going over the edge.

Edit for spelling only.

76. The narcissist I refer to prides herself for not drinking anymore.
She's awful now, and I never saw her in her whiskey days. But some people say she was a lot easier to get along with when she drank.

I saw her all jacked up on pain pills one night. She not only got fired, but was escorted out in handcuffs because she made such a screaming scene. She doesn't even remember I was there that night, and we are keeping it that way.

What's really scary is that she used to be a cop, (but got fired for some reason. :eyes: )

So, she has a license to carry a concealed weapon. And she now wears one on her ankle, so I'm told, because she thinks people are against her. They are trying to get rid of her. Again.

I only go there about once a month now. And I always call ahead to make sure she's not there. I think she's a nutcase, and I don't need that shit.

If my name is on a bullet, then fine. I'm not afraid of death. But I won't throw myself in front of one either.

91. LOL! White ones! You silly gal!
I just like socks. My feet get cold.

Thick socks? Warm socks?

You don't have to answer. I didn't mean to press. I'm just anal about warm feet. :)

84. LUV this thread. :)

1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.

- i haven't even been aware of such thing as "DU Lounge" until tonight

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?

- yeah, probably, but nothing extraordinary/truly pathological, though

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.

- no, i'm relatively new/very part-time on DU, but i met several people from another political forum that i frequent. and it was a very positive experience; we're all friends, still, even after i quit the forementioned forum.

4) Do you like to shop?

- hate shopping. always had, it's like a necessary evil and a total chore for me, whenever i actually shop.

5) How big is your Ignore list?

- don't have one and never even considered getting one.

:)

86. The thing I've noticed most is the Ignore list. It's feast or famine.
Either people have none or a few, or a buttload. There's no in between.

I'm not sure that means anything. I just noticed.

87. Let's see here..
1) I worked in a mental institution before I became a trucker.

2) Yes, I have been living with one for almost ten years.

3) Once but we didn't realize it until later that day when we were both online. He posted a video of a rally and I could see my girlfriends chest in the frame.

4) Hate it. I usually just hand Deb the credit card and let her go by herself.

5) I don't have anyone on ignore.

88. la la la la la, five answers for Lil Missy, do-wop do-wop tada!
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 10:12 PM by Chan790
1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.

I used to be homeless. Not merely indigent or couch surfing, but actually slept in all my clothes in a public park and had no place to live for an extended period of time. One of my college classmates recognized me and took me home with him where I lived on his floor for several months while I got my life together.

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?

Other than me? Not really.

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.

Never met any of you. No offense, but I really don't have any desire to. Nobody lives up to who they are online.

4) Do you like to shop?

I love it. It's the high point of my day.

5) How big is your Ignore list?

3 assholes.

105. OK, I'll bite
1) Tell something about yourself that we don't already know.

I'm now on Facebook (but not with any link to my identity here)

2) Have you ever met or had to deal with a narcissist?

According to my wife, I am one. No, not particularly.

3) Have you ever met a Duer in person? Please explain any good or bad experiences.

No, although the OP keeps threatening to hunt me down in the old market and make me buy her drinks. I'm just gonna lie and say I'm Omaha Steve

4) Do you like to shop?

Not in stores, but I'll sit online and hunt down travel bargains for hours.

5) How big is your Ignore list?
Six, and it's growing. I took everyone off ignore after the election. Then a bunch of people started really annoying me, so I had 'em whacked.
