Elton - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - WTF????
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 03:26 PM by Taverner
Didn't he know he was supposed to space out all of his masterpieces among other substandard tunes? That way to sell more records - what was he thinking putting them all on one album???

1. "I'm not a present for your friends to open."
That's one of my favorite all time "angry/bitter break-up" song lines.

12. For me, Elton and Stevie Wonder have parallel careers
They both jump the shark at the same time, even

14. Ruined it for Wonder, Elton and KISS, but helped it for the Bee Gees, Tramps and Funkadelic
Everything is a two edged sword ya know

3. I remember bringing that album home.
I still love it.

"All the Young Girls Love Alice" totally got my interest.

10. BTW....do you think that it has anything to do with gospel themes Elton uses on that album?
There are a lot of gospel elements to that album - and not done in a dismissive way either...

16. Thing is I think Oh Happy Day had a big influence on him
You can see a lot of that song in different, completely artistically different iterations.

And I do think that song has Soul Clapping.

19. The songs on side three are about as misogynistic as rock music gets.
"All the Girls Love Alice" is homophobic too. Still, this was one of the first three albums I bought with my own money back in 1974! It will always be among my favorites.

20. Please explain
Are you reading perhaps too much into that?

Remember, Elton displayed that incredible talent known as "irony" that no one had yet heard of yet...

Rub her down,
Scrub her back,
Turn her inside out,
'Cause I bet she hasn't had a bath in years."
