1. *waves hand*
Still up!

I'm feeling as though I'll be here awhile too...

Though I just yawned cavernously!

How ya doing tonight?

8. We hit 100 here today.
UGH.

It is 84 in the upstairs of the house. And that is with the patio door on the second floor open and the fans going (we have a clay tile roof, so it really holds the heat).

12. That is hot.
I hope we don't reach 100 this summer.

I would like for the gulf of mexico not to get to hot.

Not looking forward to another Ike.

13. "but it's a DRY heat"
:eyes:

I hope the Gulf stays cool this summer. You all have had enough terrible storms.

According to the "natives" of California, July and August are supposedly the only hot months. But I have been here for almost 3 years and that has not been the case. It started in April last year and did not let up until about mid September.

15. Might need to get a small window ac unit.
That kind of heat can kill you.

I get used to the heat after awhile in the summer.

I don't like the heat.

16. We have central air.
We also set up a 12' x 30" above ground swimming pool in our backyard. I am hoping that a daily evening dip in the pool will allow us to keep from overusing the AC this summer. We had some killer electric bills last summer.

17. With the window unit you can just cool one room.
After Ike last year I learned how to make a cooling pillow, it is very cheap.

Take a two gallon zip lock bag and fill the bottom with about two or three inches of ice or very cold water.

Close it up and use it like a pillow, the zip lock bag as plenty of air in it.

Keep the ice or cold water on the back of your neck, it will really cool you down.

I did this, we had a few really hot sticky nights here last year.

Stay safe.

With the hot flashes, that can be useful year round.

21. It really worked for me.
We had a few nights that were so humid and without ac, it was really bad.

I remember the commerical on tv about the device from Shaper Image, that you put around your neck to stay cool.

The best I could do was the two gallon zip lock bag.

It took about 5 minutes and then I was much cooler and could sleep.

What on earth does "FOS" mean? No, looking it up online got me over 50 possibilities so that solved nothing for me. If that term is used in a response by a fellow DU member, what does it mean?
Sleepless and somewhat traumatised in Tacoma.

This aging hippy is not used to such endearments...well except when it comes from my step kids and only if they need something. Good morning to you Miss H. I'm not usually up this late....is it 4/20 over in Germany yet? (4/20 is a traditional American holiday btw, only without the watching of football games or the eating of hams or turkeys, many folks actually get that day off-which usually comes as a surprise to their employers!)

30. They don't acknowledge the sacred 4-20 holiday in Germany?
That is truly sad! For many Americans, this is a religious holiday! Over here, some folks take off from work, order pizza and sit on their couches and play video games! Others, (self included) plan on getting into the great outdoors with their chums just prior to 4PM in order to attend the great 4/20-4:20 ceremony. I just like to watch...of course. Its sorta like 'Fashing' but beer is a lot less important and we only get the one day. I am sorry that you are stuck having to work on such an important day.

33. How barbaric!
btw, I am pullin your chain a bit Miss H. 4-20, (accdg to urban legend at any rate), was a police call sign for Pot Smokers. Nowadays it is a day that those who smoke pot do just that-not that there is any real need for a special day to go out and get high. Truth be told, it is so celebrated by so many folks here in America,it just might some day become a holiday-well that is if they ever get around to lifting the silly bans about smoking it.

My plan for today is to be out on the disc golf course with my chums later on. We're just now starting to get sunshine around here-the cherry blossoms are going full tilt, (like in your photo in your good morning DU OP) and I am happy to report that I have my first sunburn of the season!

So far I avoided the sunburn. Been close to it a couple of tims but luckily got in the shade soon enough to not get sunburned.

...It's late, my mind is not working so well, (ok so it is working as well as it can).... I've made amends in your Good Morning DU thread and am glad you didn't suffer any sunburns but I am soooo sorry to have made a friend cry. Perhaps today would have been a good day for me to have watched TV instead of being silly on the good ol' DU!

Thanks for the hug Heidi and thanks for solving that. I truly was unsure what she meant and she never got back to me... Not that I believe in astrology but my sign says that I am prone to 'foot-n-mouth disease', that much is pretty acurate so I suspected I might have done so again but was unsure.

35. Heidi confirms what you say, so i have to believe she didn't mean:
French Onion Soup! ( http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/FOS )
btw: There are many in the DU i get enlightened by on occasion...there are only a few who do that on a regular basis. T. Jefferson said that democracy requires an enlightened electorate. I am ever mindful of what ol' President Tom said while reading the DU and i feel that you as well as babylonsister have earned our gratitude. (just wanted to let you know that in case i screw up again).

38. This has to be a put-on.
Even if someone were so depraved as to skulk about "The Lounge" section of "The Democratic Underground" website, how likely is it that they'd so lack self-esteem as to admit, nay, boast of it?
