It's time for the weekly MLB check-in thread!
My Phils are in an obvious slump - and the death of Harry Kalas most certainly dampened their spirits. I'm hoping that this is only temporary.

And may I say that I'm quite impressed with the Marlins? :wow:

What's the scoop on your team?

1. Offense: Great
Starting rotation: Solid (would be upped to very good if Carpenter hadn't got hurt yet again.)
Bullpen: A bunch of worthless wash-ups who will cost St. Louis a playoff berth. Again.

2. My team is so bad they couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat.
Do you remember the 2004 season? The Dbacks had 111 losses.
Well, they could do it again this year... they are THAT bad.

3. *sigh*
I'm actually NOT that impressed by the Marlins. If weren't for REALLY bad pitching in the 9th and on the Nats should've swept them....

20. actually, if you look at the box scores, the nats did well in the first two innings
and were dominated the rest of the innings in each of the games. Take Sunday. Had the game ended after 2 innings, you'd win 2-0. In innings 3-9, we crush you 7-2.
Again on Saturday, first two innings you win 6-2. Innings 3-11, we crush you 7-0.
Friday is the only game where the Nationals did ANYTHING outside the first two innings.

So yeah, if baseball games were only 2 innings long, you'd be 2-1 this weekend.

First two innings combined, you win 8-2. Innings 3-11 combined, we dominate 17-4.

4. We are at 500 a game and a half out of first.
Until yesterday, our pitching was looking pretty good. Two straight shut outs of the Braves.

6. Marching to the Series, baby!
Tied for third, already leading the Orioles this fine day.

While not my team, I must once again commend the Marlins. What a fantastic start they've had this season.

Oh, and how can I possibly post in a baseball thread and not mention the .091 Nationals. They had some good bats this week, but sadly nothing else.

7. The Nats are useless.
Just horrible

caught parts of both games against the Marlins. They lost both. Bad bad baseball.

The O's were doing great but they lost at least one to Boston.

Apparently all the Braves are hurt.

8. .500...so eh...
Starting pitching with the exception of Santana has been shaky. Our bullpen has been stellar which pleases me to no end, and offense has been hit or miss (pardon the pun) except Delgado who is kicking ass and taking names.

I believe the Marlins will eventually fall by the wayside, I don't trust that pen and Lindstrom is very beatable when he is off.

9. Tigers are coming on strong
They had a great game against Seattle yesterday, won 8-2, and 20 year old pitcher, Rick Porcello, got his first win (and a face full of shaving cream). Tigers' record is 9-6, a much better start than 2008.

18. Mariner's fan here. I was mighty impressed by Porcello yesterday.
Overall, Seattle is doing quite well, especially in comparison to the last couple of dismal years. First place in the AL West, won all series so far except the one against your Tigers.

playing .615 ball after first couple weeks...
huge improvement over the last couple years.

The team is fun to watch...didn't like them
losing two in a row to Detroit....
hopefully they're back on their feet tonight.

Of course the death of Nick Adenhart certainly didn't help things. I bet it will be a whole before they return to form.

21. My Twins just swept the Angels for the first time in over a decade.
The highlight of which was Jason Kubel hitting for the cycle, the homerun being a GS in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Twins were down 9-7.

:woohoo:

HAPPY!

Not to mention a Republic. And yes he was an excellent announcer.

23. Gasp! A sports figure who plays road games??

Vin Scully is a Republican. I'm not in love with the idea, but it's not something I think about unless it's a July 4 game and he's pontificating about the flag and freedom. He's the best announcer in history, and that kinda overshadows everything else.

That would be Jack Buck.
Harry Carey would come in second.

Can't agree with you there - as beloved as he was as a person, everytime I heard him, he was smashed out of his mind. I would hardly consider him to have been a professional.

Ever. I'm not saying that I'm so naive to not accept it if it were true, but I do find it disturbing that people trash the dead.

41. I didn't get there until the actual memorial service was to begin.
They filled up the sections directly behind home plate, and turned everybody else away (they claimed it was for security purposes, which I understand). So, there were a whole lot of us watching the big screens at Chickie's & Pete's.

Outside, it was so quiet. I counted 17 limousines wrapped around CitiBank Park. I didn't even see anyone taking pictures. It was kinda eerie to see the sea of red - much like October - and yet, QUIET.

I'm not used to seeing Philadelphia fans showing class. :P

We're at the same spot we were last year. Last year Burrel was the one guy carrying us and this year it's Ibanez. As it gets warmer the Phils will also heat up. We're due to win it all again in 2036.
