I love Hoosiers, with Gene Hackman, Dennis Hopper, and Barbara Hershey. It is a fine basketball movie, and one of the best movies about the high school sports experience.

Sometime, you might want to check out "Rudy". I despise the Notre Dame football program, and even I find the story uplifting.

8. Remember the Titans

In Reel Life: Early in the season, Sheryl's watching game film with coach Boone at his house. Someone throws a brick through his window, calling him "Coach coon."

In Real Life: "There wasn't a brick thrown through my window," Boone says in his DVD commentary. "It was something far more devastating to any human being than a brick could be. I guess Disney, being the family movie production company that it is, felt that to depict a toilet stool coming through your window was a bit much ... I've never gotten over that incident that particular night, because I could never understand how anybody could feel so bad about another human being as to throw a toilet commode through a window."

12. I grew up in Maryland at that time

I don't remember the real story from when I was a kid, but I remember bussing, and I remember things that kids and grownups said about bussing. I find the story of "Remember the Titans" compelling for that reason. Many people are upset that Disney did the movie and that it doesn't hit you with both barrels of hate and vulgarity. In this case, I'll disagree -- I think it's good they told the story in a way tthat parents can sit with their kids and watch together.

Ron Shelton's first sports film, with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell. I never understood why it got such bad reviews.

25. I'm with you -- going with "The Best of Times"

It's just a wonderful film. Forget the critics and go rent a copy. I watched it with my nephew, then a high school athlete who later played wide receiver at Alma (MI) College, and he thought it was swell too. So that's a couple more votes for it.

Side note: Our own ronnymarshall's dad played high school football at Bakersfield High -- the "bad guys" in the film.

"Black Sunday" (1977) actually doesn't star Mr. Heston. It stars two other actors I enjoy very much -- Robert Shaw and Bruce Dern

I realized my error when I saw a poster upthread describe the movie Black Sunday about a stolen blimp. So I searched up Charlton Heston, realized he made well over 70 movies so I did a search of the USC Stadium on Wikipedia on saw the movie listed under the "In Popular Culture" section.

Really want to see North Dallas Forty. Varsity Blues also comes to mind, I know its not a "football" movie but it is the main story line. Also I was a high school football player in a country town when that movie came out so I may be a bit biased. Remember the Titans is very good.
