3. My Dear California Peggy
I love Hoosiers, with Gene Hackman, Dennis Hopper, and Barbara Hershey. It is a fine basketball movie, and one of the best movies about the high school sports experience.

4. Oh fuck.
Man, my mind is going tonight.

First, I misread rucky's name...

And now I enter a basketball movie's name in a football movie thread...

Just shoot me now.

Sorry.

7. Such language, California Peggy
Seriously, no worries. Hoosiers is a great movie.

Sometime, you might want to check out "Rudy". I despise the Notre Dame football program, and even I find the story uplifting.

Seriously, no worries here as well!

I did enjoy "Rudy." But not as much as I did "Hoosiers." :P

6. Based on the wildly popular novel
Bruce Dern is a great villian in that.

Another film along that line from that era was "Two Minute Warning" with, IIRC, Chuck Heston.

8. Remember the Titans
In Reel Life: Early in the season, Sheryl's watching game film with coach Boone at his house. Someone throws a brick through his window, calling him "Coach coon."

In Real Life: "There wasn't a brick thrown through my window," Boone says in his DVD commentary. "It was something far more devastating to any human being than a brick could be. I guess Disney, being the family movie production company that it is, felt that to depict a toilet stool coming through your window was a bit much ... I've never gotten over that incident that particular night, because I could never understand how anybody could feel so bad about another human being as to throw a toilet commode through a window."

12. I grew up in Maryland at that time
I don't remember the real story from when I was a kid, but I remember bussing, and I remember things that kids and grownups said about bussing. I find the story of "Remember the Titans" compelling for that reason. Many people are upset that Disney did the movie and that it doesn't hit you with both barrels of hate and vulgarity. In this case, I'll disagree -- I think it's good they told the story in a way tthat parents can sit with their kids and watch together.

13. Not my pick, but "The Best of Times" was decent.
Ron Shelton's first sports film, with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell. I never understood why it got such bad reviews.

I, too, don't understand why the critics were so hard on it.

25. I'm with you -- going with "The Best of Times"
It's just a wonderful film. Forget the critics and go rent a copy. I watched it with my nephew, then a high school athlete who later played wide receiver at Alma (MI) College, and he thought it was swell too. So that's a couple more votes for it.

Side note: Our own ronnymarshall's dad played high school football at Bakersfield High -- the "bad guys" in the film.

18. The scene where the players come in and put their jerseys on Dan Devine's desk is incredible
Steele: I want Rudy to dress in my place Coach. He deserves it.
Dan Devine: Don't be ridiculous, Georgia Tech is one of the top offense teams in the country.

Dan Devine: You are an All-American and our Captain, act like it!
Steele: I believe I am.

"Black Sunday" (1977) actually doesn't star Mr. Heston. It stars two other actors I enjoy very much -- Robert Shaw and Bruce Dern

You may be thinking of "Two Minute Warning" -- a sniper pic with Heston.

On edit -- and then the poster fixed it

22. Yes I got confused
I realized my error when I saw a poster upthread describe the movie Black Sunday about a stolen blimp. So I searched up Charlton Heston, realized he made well over 70 movies so I did a search of the USC Stadium on Wikipedia on saw the movie listed under the "In Popular Culture" section.

23. Any Given Sunday.
Really want to see North Dallas Forty. Varsity Blues also comes to mind, I know its not a "football" movie but it is the main story line. Also I was a high school football player in a country town when that movie came out so I may be a bit biased. Remember the Titans is very good.

Colonel Blake: (to Spearchucker Jones at the football practice) I had another idea. I think we should have some plays. You know, usually in football you have some organized plays.
Spearchucker: I took the liberty.
Colonel Blake: Oh, you have...
Spearchucker: I drew up about seven or eight plays. I figure that's about all this bunch can handle.
Colonel Blake: Oh, these are good. These are very good. Uh, what are these little arrows here?
